I wanted to have a contest so I could give away some unusual knife handle blocks. A lot of you have been extra friendly with information and advice so I wanted to give something back. I picked out 4 blocks I thought looked cool. They will be the prize to the contest winner. I will pay postage within the US.

There will be some hints in our listings in the for sale forum. You can change your guess anytime before the morning of the 4th.

Here's how the contest works:

Guess what type of wood each block is. List your guesses, numbering them from 1 through 4, left to right. Example; #1 (the one on the far left) name of wood, #2 (the next piece) name of wood. And so on till you name the type of wood for blocks 1 thru 4.

You guys are pretty smart so there may be several of you that guess correctly for all four blocks. So after you name each block, pick a number between 1 and 100. If there is a tie, the blocks will go to whoever guessed them right and picked the number closest to the number we have selected.

We will go through your guesses on the morning of July 4th and announce who is the winner.

The center 2 blocks have been stabilized. The outer 2 blocks are of wood that is plenty hard without stabilizing. The photos show each surface of the blocks. The wood has been lightly misted with water so you can better see the character of the wood.

Just one hint. These are all woods native to the Western US. But they are not necessarily typical examples of what you would normally see.

Identify each block and pick a number between 1 and 100. Post it on this thread. Good Luck. I hope this is fun for all of you. Hopefully the winner will post photos of a knife they make with this unusual wood.
