Thank You to everyone who took part in the contest.

I will post the winning answers and then go through the entries to see who had the correct answers. I have noticed that there are several so the winning number will be the tie breaker.

For the number I used my Grandmother's age when she passed away last month.

The Number is : 94

The wood types are:
1. Eucalyptus
2. Buckeye
3. Maple
4. Walnut

I will go through the entries and post the winner shortly.

There were 6 contest players with the correct wood names so the tie breaker is who was closest to the secret number.

The correct wood names were given by:
MRNEWBERRY
CDHUMISTON
GO MIKE
MCINTOSH
DANPIERSON
DEWEYKNIVES

The closest to the secret #94 was Dan Pierson with his guess of #77.

Congratulations Dan Pierson!!! You are the Winner!
Send me a pm with your mailing address and I will send your blocks on Monday.

Thanks for running this :D It was a lot of fun.

I never would have guessed the Redgum Eucalyptus
if you hadn't posted the hint.

Also would have guessed Oregon Myrtle Burl for the
last one except that several of the Claro Walnut pieces
you posted did have similar colors and you conspicuously
hadn't posted any Myrtle.

Speaking of which: I'll be you have some knockout
Myrtle burl hidden around somewhere...

Congrats Dan for the win, and Burl Source thanks for the chance at the giveaway. Doug

Nobody else was guessing the red gum eucalyptus either. It is one of those woods that hardly anyone goes looking for on purpose unless they have used it before. It is very hard wood that takes a great polish. Cool stuff.

Do you think I should cut some myrtle burl? I have a slab stashed that I was thinking about whether I should cut it into blocks.

I didn't get the right number but dag burn if guessing right on the woods isn't fun by itself! Thanks for running the contest. It was fun!

Allen

Congrats Dan! At least I got them all right! Thanks to Burl Source for the chance.

The blocks arrived today. Very pretty and very generous in size. Remember the little buckeye burl block -- it's a full 5 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1 inches.

Thanks again Mark.

I'll try to mix them in fairly soon after I finally get a knife made with the test block you sent me. Forged a blade last weekend that may do for that. Unfortunately I'm a pretty slow worker however I suspect that my exchange knife this year will feature one of those blocks.
