This will probably be an easy one for you guys.
Guess what type of wood this is and win this block.
I am sure more than one of you will guess it right so pick a number between 1 and 100 as well. That will be the tie breaker. This block should be large enough to get 2 bowie size handles.
Be as specific as possible with your answer, example; English Walnut instead of Walnut. Just post your guess of what type of wood and your number in this thread. The contest will end Friday night (7/24) and we will post the winner Saturday morning.
I apologize for the bad photos. I seem to have a talent for taking bad photos of good wood. The wood was sanded to 120 grit and dampened for the photos. This wood has very chatoyant figure that moves around under the surface of the wood. This is very hard wood that will polish up beautifully. I will be cutting up a couple dozen blocks of this next week and making them available after the contest end. They will be selling at $20 for a block 5"x1.75"x1" or slightly larger. If you want me to hold a block or two for you just mention it with your entry. I won't have a lot of this wood and don't know if I will find a piece like this again.
1 Hint: This tree is a hardwood that grows in Northern California and Southern Oregon.
GOOD LUCK!
