Contest/Free Sheath Time!!

It is cool how comfortable the handle is on my Hurley Creek. The rounded edges of the all-metal handle leaves no hot spots.

I'm wondering if that will make it a little nicer as an EDC due to the thinness. I like my HCL with the handles a lot too as more of a hiking/B&T/need a little more grip type of uses. I was thinking of seeing if John could do something where the handles are literally just liner material, so super thin but enough to get grip with. It's on my list of concepts to bring to John for some unique things to have him make me. We'll see how many I commit to I guess, but the HCL is a great design.

Mine is 3/16. I have read where others have just used painters tape on it, so it would offer a little more grip, but still able to undo the tape if want to remove it.

Simplejack Simplejack im gonna be sending you pictures of my initial thoughts and drawing tomorrow then just waiting on thread that should be here tomorrow and yours will be good to go as long as your happy with my idea!

B JACKSON B JACKSON I glued up your wood insert tonight for the traditional style sheath and as long as the fits good tomorrow after glue up I’ll start shaping the block. If not I’ll redo the wood insert a lil less deep and glue up again. I’m using pine vs a hard wood since it’s very light compared to my first just cut outs of a hard wood; and the 9oz leather I’m going to wrap over it will protect it from any possible deformation to the wooden blade cover so a hard wood Shouldn’t be necessary.

I’ll also take some photos to post tomorrow!

Here’s the idea for the wooden blade cover to recreate the historically accurate sheath and ensure the leather won’t get cut. It’s got a lil to much wiggle so I may have to restart on this part because I’m thinking even with the leather being fairly tight around the handle it may still rattle. I also need to shrink the shoulders down for the final profile.

Wow, awful lot of effort on your end there! Thank you for caring!I have a feeling that this knife/sheath combo will become my most prized edged item!

I just want to make sure it’s done to the best of my ability. The fit up and down is perfect but I chiseled out a tad to much for the blade depth

Ok this time around I got the results I’m looking for! B JACKSON B JACKSON

The fit is pretty damn good for myself not really being a woodworker but more so of a carpenter background for my wood experience.

And now tomorrow I can start shaping the outline once all this glue is dry!

So both sheaths will be done next week as long as I don’t run into any snags on the wood shaping! I had to redo the wooden blade cover again because that fit was way to good and couldn’t get the knife all the way in. But after a lot of screw ups this afternoon and adding some skived down leather to the inside I have the best fit I will be able to achieve with my sub par wood working skills.

@Simplejacks sheath is almost done. He said to do whatever and I think for the Hurley creek a pocket sheath with the option for belt carry would be a good fit for it’s uses. Once it’s all stitched up I’m gonna do another test fit, but right now I can hold it upside down and shake it and it requires a lot of force to come out. If not, I’m gonna extend my pattern and make a loop over cover and it will still be done by next week.
