Contest Participation, or rather, the lack thereof.

If I can be honest I just wasn't that interested in the prize very much, not that it's not a great prize I just have a wallet that I love already and I don't see myself changing it out anytime soon. I thought of some cool ideas for pics too but I didn't want to take away a prize from someone that was entering because they really wanted it. Very generous of him though. I've had a couple contests not too long ago, participation was meh so-so (in volume, not quality of entries those were great). Not as many people entering as they used to it seems that's for sure.

My apologies to those of you who misunderstood the contest rules; one thing I learned was that I probably violated the KISS principle. Shorter, easier to read rules woulda been better.

I also like Critikill's suggestion of a Sticky where we could place all contests. I think that would make them easier to find as well. It is painful to try to keep bumping your contest to Page 1.

I know there have been contests in the past that I would have entered, but I didn't realize they existed until the winner was announced.

I've only been an active member of this forum for about a month, I just won a prize in a kershaw forum! I value all the people on this forum and in the knife community, you all have been sooooooo good to me in my breif time here... hopefully soon I will be able to give back as well. As far as participoation goes I can assure you I will be participating in all i can, though If i win a few, i would back off to allow others the opportunity as well:thumbup:

I haven't had the time lately. I've love to enter some contests though. They are always fun; well already the ones you have to do something in. Picture contests are fine but I'd rather do something, or build something.

On this particular contest I didn't enter because I did not have an 11 anymore to display.

On contests here in general, I only participate if it is something I want or can use. Personally I feel it is better to not win something someone else would be happier to have. That's my cents.

My answer is that I'm just lazy......and I've had a lot of free time tied up lately. I would like to do some of them but I always ended up getting tied into doing something else.

I think a part of the reason we haven't seen any official contests is due to the lack of participation. Maybe we hit that saturation point or something, but one thing that always gets me is when a ton of people sign up but only a few people actually end up doing the challenge/contest/whatever. Personally, I won't put that I am entering a contest until my entry is complete. Keeps me from having to look like a goob when I don't get it done. Anyways, this isn't me calling anyone in particular out, or even really directed at Crewdawg's contest, just trying to get an idea for what is going on around here. I know I have had a couple of contests and only had a handful of people actually make an attempt at it. I get it, people are busy and have lives and whatnot, but I know that if any of you are like me, you have a lot more free time than you give yourself credit for, and a lot of these contests are good ways to learn new skills or hone older ones, which I think is a good use of that time.

Anywhoosles, not trying to start beef, just trying to get a feel for the rest of you reprobates and what is going on in those skulls of yours.

I'll tell ya, doing that urban survival challenge was way more rewarding than I thought it would be! Not only did I get a sweet piece of steel from Uncle E, but the contest made me really think about things in ways I never had before.
And Bladite's contest of Evil was a blast. It was harder than hell trying to find all the answers to his hidden questions, but it sure was alot of fun.
Not to mention Bladite's 25 Questions Contest! I won a BK-4 for crying out loud! That was so much fun watching everyone's guesses. Then Tanner took one for the team and I knew the answer! But I had to wait about 30 minutes for a few others to make a guess. I was literally on the edge of my seat!
(I still owe you one Tanner!)
To those of you who "would like to participate, but just don't", I would encourage you to give some of these contests a go. You'll be glad you did!

I think a sub-forum for the Becker contests would help everyone keep track of them more easily.

I think this is a good idea as well.

I love contest's and should've gotten in on that. How about a thread just were folks can list up contest's that are going on?

This is exactly what I think. Good call though Derek, thanks for starting this thread.

New here and just finding my way around....Not sure where everything is yet....a lot to take in

not too sure about what "contests" are all about. and only bottle openers i had are non becker related, including my missing tooth due to too many bottles opened with it after being drunk back in college.

I'm light on contest entries, but also way short on time.
Generally I won't enter a contest if the prize is something I already have or don't want - someone else should get the chance. I suppose a prize is transferrable, but the short on time thing bites.

The monthly skills contests were awesome. I'd like to see those again. Even if they were only bi-monthly. Good reads if nothing else.

Hey Derek, I don't normally enter contests - kind of short on time, etc. but since I already had the bottle opener video from my BK-4 thread, and since I was looking for an ID wallet, it was a natural. Also if I enter contests, I like to do it from a unique perspective. If I can't think of something different to do, I usually won't enter.

Doc

I guess I should read more, I usually assume that the Becker contest are for Beckerheads. I enjoy seeing the entries though.

I've been as busy as a grave digger in a plague year. Not a lot of time for the forum other than a quick glance every morning and evening.
