Will,
I think this is a trick question. I don't
think Becker ever won.

Why 1990? Who had it at the Blade Show that year? Did BlackJack Knives have it then?? Enquiring minds want to know some details.

After thinking about it, I would have certainly guessed around the 1980 period, when Becker introduced the knife, unless it had to do with the reintroduction by Camillus. Does the Most Innovative American Design only go to production knives?

Perhaps when the November issue of Blade Magazine arrives, the categories will all become clearer. Since I have never been to a Blade Show, are the awards announced then, or are they kept secret until the November issue of Blade Magazine?

Congratulations to Brian! Let us all know how you like it.

Thanks very much for the contest, Will & all the other great folks at Camillus! I'm a big khukuri fan & can't wait to get my hands on the Machax.

Tree branches are starting to encroach on the dirt road to my camp & it is once again time to trim them back to save the finish on my truck. I was going to tackle them this weekend but now I'll enjoy a little extra hammock time & wait until I can put the Machax to the task. I promise to give it a good work out & write-up.

Thanks again.

Will,
I have a few questions,if Ethan Becker co-authored The Joy of Cooking in 1931 how old
is this man.
What year were the first Becker knives
produced?
Thanks!
JOCKO

Mr. Becker's Grandmother (I think) was the original author, Mr. Becker revised the latest edition.

Legend has it that Mr. Becker is so old that when he was a child he helped dig the Mississippi River.

In response to Donald's inqiries: Why not 1990? That was the year that BK&T Corp. introduced the Tac Tool... before any of our entanglements with Blackjack occurred.

In response to Jacko/Fisk: Yes, I'm old...
but not that old. Fisk is fibbing a tad.

In response to Burke: I have been working on Joy since 1968 and did the last revision...
hence the title "coauthor". My Grandmother, Irma S. Rombauer, published the book in 1931.

P.S. to Fisk: I've learned my lesson...
The next time Uncle Jerry asks me to dig a f*ing ditch, I WILL NOT FORGET to ask him how long and how deep 1st!

Uncle Ethan
You are a hoot. It is always fun to talk to or hear from you.

Ethan,
Makes sense NOW that I know 1990 was when the Tac Tool was introduced.

I read you designed a great backpack too, but have not figured out exactly which one it is yet.
Donald.

Donald,
Ethan is truly a multi-talented man. From cooking[and cook books], to BK&T, to load bearing gear.

Ethan designed the BECKER PATROL PACK some years ago. It is manufactured by EAGLE INDUSTRIES. I found a pic of it for you on the BRIGADE QUARTERMASTERS website... http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/level4c.tam?xax=11800

A well thought out piece of gear. Thanks for the interest.
