Convex edges are the best!

The straight guide rod gives straight edges, the bended guide rod gives convex edges and the slightly curved fine diamond sharpener gives recurved edges. All in the same sharpening tool.

If you want to se them, look at my Swedish homepage.

That's a great solution, Thomas... very resourceful!! I'm going to continue with the mousepad and sandpaper, but just in case I feel like giving up, do you sell it? I didn't see anywhere on the web site that they could be purchased.

Convex edges is nice to cut fresh meat, that is why I think that hunters knifes absolutely shall be convex. If you slaughter a mouse with a V-shaped knife you need to sharpen the edge during the slaughtering. You do not need that if the edge is convex. I think that tells a lot about the convex edge.

Man, you guys must have some big mice in Sweden!!! ;)

I know EdgePal did sell his system, back when this was an active thread, but I haven't tried it. I'm still useing the method I describe in post #1 and am very happy with my results. Has anyone else tried or use a bench stone to produce convex edges and or blade grinds?

Hi DB I am new to the forum but I just read your message about convex sharpening on a stone and you are right .I actually did it last night by accident I had a cheap v edge knife that I could not get sharp,so I broke out my coarsest stone and I was gona try and take down the I think it called the sholder its the little sorta ridge just before the beginning of the cutting edge.So I put it on the stone and held it ata very low angle about 2 quarters height and rubbed like crazy formed a burr and did a couple of strokes like you said to get rid of it and then continued on through the grits finishing with the strop .The funny thing is I hand no idea what I was doing just experimenting with a knife I did not care for and it ended up being a nearly perfect convex edge I was amazed when I looked at it toatly expected to get a flat edge or v edge but I guess naturally humans just cant hold a perfect angle in that way for that long ,it took me like 2 hours. It was he first time I ever got a hair whitleing edge I mean this thing scares me I cant wait to see what happens when I do it to a better knife with better steel.but it took me not careing about this one knife and being afraid o damage it and really grinding away to find out.sorry this is so long just wanted o tell you your method works better than any other I tried

Much of this about convex edges is merely hype or baloney. This topic is trendsical and we see it come around every so often with glowing reports. I have yet to see the Pixie Dust trail with it, except for the edge on a hatchet. DM

This thread had 64 posts up to 2007. Adding two more wasn't worth resurrecting it. Please look at the dates.
