• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Convexing woes--need help!

Success!! I spent about 15mins on the 1000grit using very light strokes and it's popin' hairs like nothing now. However, in my excitement, I shaved a little too much hair off and am now the proud owner of a few oddly placed bald spots.

Well done!

Very glad to hear it worked out. Especially on this blade (S30V), which would be a HUGE hurdle for most anyone, the first time out. Many other steels, by comparison, will feel like a cake walk after this one.

I bolded part of your quote above, because that's a great big part of developing the 'feel' for it. I think most people, including myself, have a very tough time figuring out what's 'right' for the pressure used. The best way to figure it out, is to just keep at it, and keep thinking and analyzing what's working and why, and what isn't. Once you have figured it out, at least for one particular steel at a time, it'll become a little easier to zero in on it with each new blade.

Again, good job!

Thank you everyone!

I just hope I can keep the edge sharp so that I don't have to go through all this again. S30V steel is tough stuff! I'm trying to resist the sharpening "sickness," and am telling myself the knife is sharp enough. However, I am going to buy a strop to maintain it.

I know there are a lot of stropping compounds out there, my preference is the green compound that applies like a giant crayon, it works on every blade I have from kitchen knives to D2 and S30V.

Thank you everyone!

Well, you just convexed your knife so you'll have to have a strop or three loaded with some compounds to maintain that nice edge you just put on. That's not sickness it's just the way it is. :)

i have a method for convexing a blade that works very well but its too much to type out. if you want to give it a try send me an email with your number and i'll give you a call and help you out. rje196021@gmail.com welcome to the forum too .

I would really like to learn more about your method Richard. Would it be possible for you a video?
