Convince me on the Dragonfly

I've never considered the Dragonfly much before, but for some reason I've started thinking it would actually be a very useful utility tool, or as a secondary knife when carrying a large blade. I usually carry somewhere around a 3" knife for EDC, but for work I'll carry larger. There are always times when something smaller is handy or easier to pull out and use. I can't seem to convince myself to pull the trigger, what are your thoughts on the Dragonfly? Help me decide if I need one, pictures help too. I've also considering the Ladybug for that secondary option, which one would be better?

The dragonfly is awesome. I carried one to work for years. It works like such a bigger knife, but carries so small and light. Especially nice that it has the wire clip. You won't be dissapointed at all. I ended up grabbing a HAP 40 version because I'm a University of Texas grad and couldn't pass the burnt orange. I have my wife the black frn that I started with and she loves it. I was also trying to decide what to get my best friend who never carried a knife and is terrible at taking care of things and got him an H1 version because we fish a lot and it won't rust. I have tons of spydercos, 5 Chris reeve knives, a hinderer, and a bunch of other nice stuff and this is easily in my top 5 most carried and favorite knives.

I have a couple ladybugs and a Manbug also. All are OK watch pocket knives, but they don't even compare to the dragonfly. You could EDC the dragonfly and wouldn't want for anything else 99% of the time.

I take the clip off and the Dragonfly disappears in my pocket - perfect when my Delica is not an option.

Ladybug is too small for me to justify purchasing, especially when I already have several sub-2" microlights like the Gerber LSTs.

It is a good knife that is modern and practical for what most people are likely to encounter.

It is also is very unlikely to alarm anyone when you use it in public if that is something that concerns you.

My favorite thing about it is the wire pocket clip. Fell in love with that style of clip back when I carried a Spyderco Q.

The Dragonfly was one of my first Spydies and I think it's a great little knife! I have 3 now, along with several other models, and I find them to be very capable for my needs. I think you should at least try the basic FRN/VG10 DF. They're not that expensive and if it's not for you then you can always gift it to someone or sell it pretty easily on the Exchange. I have the feeling you'll hang on to it. They really are handy little knives.

I typically carry 3.5"-4" bladed knives but I absolutely love my Dragonfly. Realistically, it's probably the best EDC knife I own. Compact but perfectly capable for 98% of the cutting tasks I encounter. I think the most surprising aspect is how ergonomic it is. The finger choil is great for security and the handle design is superb. 10/10 would recommend.

Awsome little knife! I was in the same indecisive boat as you a while back, and buddy, you need one! Lol. I use it as a secondary knife as well with no clip just slid in the pocket. You'll forget it's there till you need it! I bought a G10 and Stainless version myself, and an FRN for my uncle. (He's not into knives but he fell in live with mine as soon as he held it) I'd say give it a try! Good luck and let us know how you make out! Maybe a visual would help, this thread could use a pic anyway!

They sure don't look so new now!

The Dragonfly is THE perfect knife for any occasion when you don't really have room or want to be carrying a knife. Conceals securely and comfortably in shorts, whether in pocket or waistband, and is basically weightless. Despite that tiny pocket presence, it fits a comfortable four-finger grip for even large hands in a way that no other small knife I've ever used can do. Those handle ergos make it a much more capable knife that the short blade length would make you think. Perfectly capable for pretty much any EDC use other than significant food prep (though it can slice an apple just fine).

I picked up the HAP40 here on the exchange in the spring and it's been a constant favorite ever since. Such a great little knife that it "converted" my wife, and she now carries the ZDP-189 version too.

Probably the most useable knife of its size that I've tried. I prefer it over a delica.

The Dragonfly is a great knife and you absolutely should buy one. I first bought the G10 model and it is still my favorite. But I have bought 5 more of differing colors and/or scale materials since then.

The Dragonfly is great. Handles like a much bigger knife and has a really useful blade shape. That said, I sold all mine. I always felt a little under gunned when I would carry it as my only knife, and I'm not really into carrying multiple knives.

I just received my first, in ZDP 189. Smoking sharp out of the box.

I have moderate sized hands, and with the choil it fits perfectly. Like others have said, it disappears in the pocket.

Dragonfly is actually one of my favorite Spydercos ever. Fits most any of my daily needs and then some, especially the G10 version, packs a huge punch for a small knife.

I guess I could've titled this thread 'convince me to spend my money'. Thanks for the replies everyone, I went ahead and ordered the standard VG10 FRN version today. I'm excited to try it out now, everyone has so much love for this little blade. I struggled with whether I should go with the ZDP189 or HAP40, I love my ZDP Delica, but figured I'd see what I think first.

Dragonfly is actually one of my favorite Spydercos ever.
That is a great collection

The Dragonfly is very easy to handle. Effortless to open one handed. The handle is brilliant and natural in the hand. Perfect blade length for a high degree of control for opening packages or trimming stuff that has to be just right. You can get ZDP-189 if you like that steel I SURE DO ! ! ! AND the ZDP-189 is made in Seki City Japan . . . that's like made in heaven when it comes to quality ! A little chippy but if you are honking' on something use your larger knife. I like the wire pocket clip and have never considered removing it though I do remove some of my pocket clips that don't feel right and very often on other knives I have to reduce the tight clip strength or put on a less robust clip for thicker work pants. Not so the Dragonfly wire clip it is very versatile and just right.

British racing green for gosh sakes ! ! !
Buy it . . . buy it now !

Got Pics ?
he says . . .

(OK I over did it but I like green knives and I LOVE this Dragonfly)

My wife carries hers everyday to work in a office environment, never gets a funny look even when clipped to her blouse. Really looking for a G10 version for myself.

I have DF2's stashed all over my life. I think all things considered, the VG10 DF2 is still my favorite. Its easy to maintain an edge, lightest of the bunch, and I really like the safety orange for such a small folder.

This little guy arrived today. It was actually a bit smaller then i expected, and a lot lighter. But I like it, the more i handle it the smoother and more comfortable it feels. Super sharp out of the box and yeah, I see how the ergos make this little knife seem bigger. The clip is tight and sturdy, but it also slips in the pocket nicely too. I think this will see a lot of carry and use, I like it.
