I am softening a bit to the Spyderco hole. Which Spyderco should I buy if I want to be really impressed and prefer overbuilt knives to delicate ones.

Examples of my favorite knives to carry
1) ZT0600
2) XM-18 3.5" spanto
3) Benchmade 950 rift M4
4) Wilson Combat Eagle
5) Dendra Tiger Jump

You sure you are ready for such a good cutting knife? I kid i kid : p
One thing is for sure, anything you choose will come much sharper then a 0600(and my 454 I just paid $650 for, errrr)

^^ Hah...both the Gayle Bradley and Vallotton came to my mind.

I would probably go with the GB because even though it's considered a hard use knife it's still going to cut extremely well. Beautiful design with great f&f too!

For your first spyderco I would recommend the Military. It's very hard to top it's cutting performance and despite its light weight and what will at first seem like a very thin blade, it's plenty strong and capable as long as you are using a knife like a knife.

Seconded. Or thirded. Our whatever we're up to now. In my opinion, the Gayle Bradley is Spyderco's best all-around knife.

Overbuilt, is there such a thing?

Szabo has so much realestate you can't feel the pocket clip! The Farid K2 is on my short list. Soon, soon

I wouldn't call the Southard over built but it's tough and a great knife. Also the domino is very sturdy and will out slice the knives you listed above. I currently own both. I used to own a Gayle Bradley and volloton, both great knives and I miss them. But once you get a hinderer in your pocket it's hard to switch out!

Here's the problem- if we convince you to buy one you will do that, you will really like it and realize how irrational it was to ignore them all this time, then you will buy a lot more. That will cut down on the knives available for the rest of us to buy. So no, you don't really want to buy that first one.

I would say try the para 2 in a sprint steel or a manix 2. They are tough knives that cut really well. Im sure they will not disappoint. The para 2 madness around the forms is not undeserved, its an awesome knife.

Here are a cpl of my more sturdy ones.
Szabo
Resilience
Ti military
Subhilt
Starmate
Bradly
Manix 2
Para 2
Battlestation

Of all of these the sub-hilt is imo pound for pound the beefiest beefcake. My buddy got ticked at me a few weeks ago and chucked it across my garage while it was open. Would of bet the edge would of been messed up but it it was not nor any other part of it. The blade stops have came loose a time or two though, my only complaint.

Also, if unsure a good first one to try out would be a resilience as its a beefy cutter for around $40 (from china made line).

New k2 next to a military. Its massive, too much knife for me.

The military is an absolute dream to carry, nice slender package that allows for the biggest mits ample grippage. Some frown upon the tip down but I myself like it and am able to open it real quick if need be. It may not have the heaviest duty blade, wouldn't recommend it for things a knife is not designed for (prying/screwdriver etc), but when it comes to making one piece into two not many can argue, its a cutter!

Have to admit I am not one to use my knives as simple cutting instruments. I do tend to use them as tools. As long as it can cut heavy plastic straps ties and such all day I am happy. (just the production knives not custom)

I'd go with the Slysz Bowie.

This is in contention.

The Schempp Bowie is pretty cool.

Overbuilt is just right! I will look at the Schempp.
