Convince me to buy a Spyderco

New k2 next to a military. Its massive, too much knife for me.

The military is an absolute dream to carry, nice slender package that allows for the biggest mits ample grippage. Some frown upon the tip down but I myself like it and am able to open it real quick if need be. It may not have the heaviest duty blade, wouldn't recommend it for things a knife is not designed for (prying/screwdriver etc), but when it comes to making one piece into two not many can argue, its a cutter!

That K2 looks pretty sweet. But darn it it is tip down and I am a creature of habit. If there was a tip up option I would have it on order right now.

I am currently most interested in the LionSpy (but who makes it) and the Rubicon. Any opinions? Possibly the Slysz bowie. I guess I tend to the ones with less"bump".

I am softening a bit to the Spyderco hole. Which Spyderco should I buy if I want to be really impressed and prefer overbuilt knives to delicate ones.

Examples of my favorite knives to carry
1) ZT0600
2) XM-18 3.5" spanto
3) Benchmade 950 rift M4
4) Wilson Combat Eagle
5) Dendra Tiger Jump

Do you have a particular price point in mind?

Lionspy is a Lionsteel Spyderco collaboration made in Italy. Not 100% but pretty sure.

Didn't see that HammerHill had posted that lol.

Sooooo...... what he said.

Get a Delica and treat it like you found it in a dumpster :)
I guarantee it will always turn up to work the next day with a smile on its face .

The Manix 2 hasn't been mentioned much, but I think it is a good work knife. I also like the Manix 2 XL but it might be too big for some people.

This but sub "Paramilitary 2" for "Delica".
Both are awesome knives but the PM2 is simply off the charts when it comes to bang for the buck.
Regardless of what model you buy don't be surprised if it doesn't "speak to you" when you first handle it. I felt this way with some of my now favorite Spydercos. These knives really need to be put to work to be appreciated.

Wait for the new Rassenti which I understand is going into production fairly soon. That'll be my next Spyderco.

Or the Tuff.

I can nearly get three delicas for the price of a PM2, so I'm not sure the PM2 is a better value for money, but I would say they are both tops in their respective price ranges...

For "Overbuilt" folders, I'd pick the Schempp Tuff, Vallotton, Gayle Bradley, Manix2, and Military...in that order. I have all but the GB, but I borrowed one for a couple of weeks and it's a pretty sweet knife also. Some pictures to "Help" you empty your wallet lol.

Everybody is different. I love my PM2, with one exception. The finger choil gets in the way when slicing things like cardboard and apples, things where I need to use the base of the blade. To the positive I would say that the locking mechanism is astounding. I can open and close it benchmade style, or using the finger hole.

Anyone have any combination of:
LionSpy
Rubicon
Slysz bowie
For comparison pics?

The LionSpy and Bowie are very different. The LionSpy is very overbuilt, has a thick blade and doesn't cut too well. The Bowie has a much thinner ground blade and cuts a lot better and carries smaller. It I were to pry with them or abuse them the LionSpy would be my choice (it also looks cooler), but the Bowie is a much better general purpose knife (imho maybe the best production one on the market)

I might be able to take comparison pics later, but I don't have a Rubicon..

Thanks for the pictures. Still torn between the 3 knives.

I very rarely simply "slice" with my main carry pocket knife. I leave slicing to my kitchen knives for food, Exacto or utility knives for leather and such and my SAK (backup carry) for small items. So main carry is always very sharp, but never to make super thin slices of tomatoes. It has to stand up to every day life for me, bordering on abuse to others. Gross cutting of cardboard, plastic, straps, ties, prying a staple....ect. That's just me being an engineer in an office, not me at home doing real work. ;)

Well I wouldn't want to subject my Rubicon to such abuse, thought it could probably take it. It is a very well built precision knife with a sturdy blade and great frame and overall pretty light. I really like it and do carry it, I just wouldn't want to trash those beautiful CF handles. The blade does have a slight re-curve and is significantly hollow ground. For an unassisted flipper the action is easy, fast and perfect.
