there is a very good reason why something like 3 in 5 new businesses flounder in the first 3 years.
It's not about taking something you love and turning it into your job. Not specifically. Success certainly doesn't rely on that.
In my increasing years, I am finding that financial security is becoming a major goal. As a bicycle shop owner, there isn't an easy answer to making lots of money. It's the kind of work that passion sustains. But passion itself is absolutely not enough to ensure a future of stability and/or growth.
It takes a certain outlook to succeed running your own business and I'll be straight up in my observation that not everyone is capable of making a go at it. I'll refer to the ratio I pointed out in the first sentence to back me up.
It takes, in large part, the ability to look at one's self clearly and constantly reassess, and also the ability to maintain discipline.
Cash flow is the big shocker which is probably what ends up sinking most boats. You gotta put some by.
Everybody wants to be a black belt, regardless if they bother with karate classes, but you can count on the fact that the only thing that will get you there is discipline coupled with time.
