Cool little Cody Lundin video

Great guy, took one of his classes last summer and looking forwart to another on (hopefully) this year.

very cool video. i learned a couple of things.

its interesting that he uses a stone blade even with the mora around his neck. i wonder if he uses the mora first when the cameras are off. perhaps someone that has taken his class can say?

I would'nt think so, I think Cody is one of the more legit folks out there doing videos. he knows his bushcraft, no need to fake it. And to think we all sit around here night after night drooling over the next best, greatest, latest steel blades...oh the irony of it all!

I have Cody's '98.6 Degrees' book, and think it's excellent. From what I understand he is pretty damned authentic and does love the outdoors. But I can't help but notice that he appears remarkably well fed for a guy who likes to live on the aboriginal edge.

I mean, it's gonna take a hell of alot of pack rats to fill out that frame of his.

And the no shoes thing strikes me as a silly affectation. Many many aboriginals made their own shoes, and for good reasons. Cracked and bleeding soles might have been some of them.

Lundin's honesty is refreshing. In 98.6° he specifically says the survivor should eschew primitive skills even if they are mastered. He raves about how nothing he can possibly make out of natural materials matches up well in terms of convenience, weight, portability, or water shedding, as a couple of 55 gallon barrel liners and some paracord.

His PSK is brimming with plastic items, non-lubed condoms, duct tape, lighters, match vaults, and magnesium blocks, as well as other items that are the best that modern technology has on offer.

The lack of shoes is part of his marketing schtick in my opinion. You gotta admit it helps him stand out a little.

I'd take a class from him in a minute if I had reason to burn off a week of my life in Arizona.

Ever notice that Cody looks like a cross between a wilderness Fabio and Vince Neil, with a Bloods gang bandana? And sounds like a cross between Tommy Chong and Timothy Leary? :p

He knows a lot but, dude, he's hit the pipe a few too many times don't you guys think? (KIDDING!!!)

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Hitting the pipe is a primitive wilderness survival skill yo.

No television and it takes awhile to ferment your own hooch.

I think that's what's cool about him. He knows his stuff, and still seems like basically a regular (if somewhat eccentric) guy. I know a few people who have taken his classes and say about the same thing. He cracks me up too.

Don't have the patience to check out the video (dialup ) but that sounds like real survival skills. I am surprised how little is said of flint knapping skills around this forum.
I personally am a tenderfoot and can't go without shoes very well, but I have a buddy who goes without shoes all the time. In fact his wife and kids do the same. You would be amazed at how tough your feet can be. I have read that the Indians would often go barefoot while walking to preserve their moccasins. Even the plains Indians rawhide soles were not very durable. I can't imagine that thin leather soles would protect your feet very much or for very long. One thing is for sure, you can't fake having tough feet. Even if he only does it for his image, he has to do it all the time to keep his feet that tough.

I have his book and think it's great, I realy like his sense of humour !!!

Is this clip taken from a video he has out or is it a TV series ?

Great video. The way he talks like my fraternity brothers and me and not trying to be PC is refreshing.

"I can't have 'em sh*ttin on my clients and whatever" :D

I don't think he has a video out, but I do remember he did a couple survival shows and it may be from one of those. He should do a video, he has great info and a personality for it for sure.

My comments were strictly humor and not meant as any kind of disrespect for Cody or his knowledge. It's precisely because he seems to have a great sense of humor that I posted that. :D

BLAZINK - " Even the plains Indians rawhide soles were not very durable."

Yep, and that's the reason that Indians of almost all tribes always carried extra mocassins with them when they were out hunting, raiding and horse stealing, exploring, scouting, fighting, etc., etc.

I've read a couple hundred books about the American Indians, and in virtually every one, it is noted that they always carried extra mocassins. Also one of the primary duties of the squaws was making mocassins.

There would have been times when they HAD to go barefoot, but it was not of choice.

If Mr. Lundin want's to pursue his outdoor activities barefoot, fine with me. But anyone who advises that people go out into the boonies barefoot, is giving out very poor advice. Aside from your brain, your feet are your greatest asset out there when the going gets downright dangerous because of the natural elements.

I'll stick with my boots and shoes. :D

I like Cody's info, but hell no am I walking barefoot anywhere! I can take his knowledge with my boots on :D

The barefoot thing is HIS shtick, and I don't let it bother me. It does make sense to practice some primitive skills to have them in your bushchest; but to make the most of what's already manufactured and available I believe is his message. Cody wants to empower folks not to be daunted by their situation, but be realistic with their skills IMO.

I tried this a couple of times last summer on one of my local hikes and it does actually make you feel quite good in a tree hugger kinda way......it's not as painfull as you might think either !!!
