COOLEST new pen of the year!

Well, it has been discussed in some of the other posts (ie. stylus/pen combo) but I thought that this baby needed some of it's own press!

I have been looking for a new EDC pen lately. I typically carry the Rotring 600 series pen/pencil combo in black and gold. I did, however, want something smaller that I could put in my pocket without stabbing myself when I sat down. I looked at the Fisher Bullet pen, but I didn't like the uncap/ecap ordeal, so I held off.

I then saw the NEW Fisher Telescopoing Space pen that they have just come out with recetly. This baby is one handed operation! I actually saw it on eBay first and that's when I started to hunt for it. This beauty is alittle bit longer (when closed) than the original Bullet, but when open it is longer. It opens with the pull of the "non-ink" end and it closes like you would close any "clik-stick" style pen. It comes in silver, that's it so far. It writes INCREDIBLE and so far...I LOVE IT!

It has gotten GREAT reviews from all the "pen geeks" and the only complaint is that without a clip, it can roll off your desk. Actually, the normal Bullet clip WILL fit the Tele. if you need it to.

Here is a good review for the pen...and I have the site for the cheapest place to buy them too if you want one. You NEED one of these babies!

Happy writing!

I have already been yelled at because I have caused some people to "stumble" and go out and order one (or in some cases TWO) of these babies. CD is one of them :-)

They are THAT cool!

David

Yeah, I'm the other one ya jerk!

Aww man, I ordered it this morning too. Argh!! :P

It'll have to be pretty cool to replace the Fisher Bullet that I carry in my pocket. Looking forward to getting it in a couple of days!

OK, David, you're off the hook.

This is a very cool pen, indeed! Took a minute to figure it out (instructions? what are instructions?) but it's pretty neat. Good find- thanks! It also writes much smoother than my old, blotty Space Pen- nice improvement.

Also, I'll throw in another plug for www.penwagifts.com - they got my package out on SUNDAY via US Mail as well as replied to an email after 10PM on Sunday. They came very well packed with a neat little invoice card, personally signed (in pen of course) by the owner. Very professional- high marks from me.

Thanks Dave!

I was VERY impressed with Penwa too! They were fast, shipped what they said, WHEN they said it...what a novel idea?!

Glad you like it...CD should be getting his today too...hope it passes his inspection. ;-)

Mine didn't make it today. Probably get here tomorrow, which is when my Lamy Tri-Pen and Retro 51 Tornado Data Pen should be here. A great day for pens!

I purchased a Fisher Bullet Pen a while back and didn't really like it that much. When I ordered it I was hoping it would be my EDC pen, but I was kind of disappointed with the way the pen wrote. I am really more a rollerball fan, but I really like the idea of the Fisher cartridges being pressurized and so forth.

So is the new telescoping pen different in any way? Are the new refills different? Has anyone not been too fond of the normal bullet pen, yet quite impressed with this one? How exactly does the telescoping pen actuate?

Thanks much,

Bucky

Joel,
I am/was the same way. I have an old bullet that I found always put globs of ink on the paper which annoyed me to the point that I just put it away in a drawer. I recall reading awhile back that at some point Fisher had a problem with the refills that were made in (Germany?) but when they swtiched to (Switzerland?) the problems evaporated.

I'm not partial to rollerballs- they tend to scratch for me, but I did find a cheapie that is great- it's the Avery E-glide gel-ink RB. They work great for about $5/3 pens- not bad at all.

The new Telescoping Fisher seems MUCH better than the old bullet. It writes smoothly and thus far (not a lot of use) the ink flows nicely without making a mess. It actuates in a somewhat odd way- it's about the size of the bullet but no cap. You pull the back extrusion to make the point available (pulling retracts a collar around the point). To close it, just push the end back in like a "click" pen (no click, however) and the collar covers the point. Pretty slick actually. The one thing I wish it had (and will get from another Fisher pen at some point) is a pocket clip.

Got this pen yesterday. My fiance made fun of me for playing with it so much. It is awesome. Much better than the bullet pen, which I never liked. Smooth writing, as well.

The only improvement I can see is to include a PDA stylus... (a clip would be ok, but not that necessary since this one is going to just ride in the bottom of a pants pocket)

Clay,
Actually, if you're not using Graffiti/Transcriber to write on your PDA/PPC, you can actually use the back end of the pen as a pointer/stylus to click what you need onscreen- just be gentle.

OTOH, Fisher does sell a Stylus replacement if you wanted a stylish stylus sans pen.

Well, I couldn't resist. I ordered one just a little while ago. I needed Fisher refills anyway, so I justified it by telling myself that I was going to have to pay shipping anyway.

Thanks for the tip David (Sproles).

These are great pens and Penwa is a great retailer. I know what alot of my family and friends are getting for their birthdays this year...

TIm: Yes, I think the other end of the pen would make an OK stylus for tapping, but is probably a little think for writing. The stylus refill would be great, as I think that using a regular pen sized stylus makes writing in Graffiti or whatever other Character-Recognition language your PDA uses much easier.

Darn, peer pressure.

OK, I just got mine and it is a cool pen. It looks like it uses the same refills as the other space pens and since it seems to write well enough, I suspect Fisher has fixed the problem with the ink that some of you mentioned.

I handled one yesterday and was very impressed. However, I have ruined a number of clothing items due to retractable writing instruments becoming activated in my pockets, notably roller balls, how resistant to accidental opening is this pen?

Axel

Hay, got one on the way, never had a Fisher
pen, anyone know what type of ink they use?
like waterproof or non bleeding?
jones

Axel,
I haven't gotten mine yet, but the design makes me think it would be next to impossible to accidentally open in your pocket. The end of the pen has to be pulled to deploy the point. Unless something in your pocket could somehow attach to the end and pull it open I don't see how it could happen.

Jones,
The Fisher ink is waterproof and non-bleeding.

Paul

I just wish mine would get here. I'm almost as impatient as when waiting for a knife. Almost.
wink.gif

Axel, a ball point is very unlikely to bleed or leak in your pocket. It may make a slight mark where it contacts teh fabric, but that is all.

I stopped using roller balls, despite my love for the feel and look after it became to expensive to replace shirts.
smile.gif

Also, I have washed my fisher astronaut a dozen times. Still writes fine, no leakage. I washed a roller ball once and had to throw away everything but one towel that I now use for my dog (I would still use an ink-stained towel, but my fiance believes differently, i.e. the age old battle of bachelors vs civilized people
smile.gif
)

Paul is right though. Would be hard for this to come open in your pocket. In fact, if you put it into your pocket while it was open, it is liable to get closed.
