COOLEST new pen of the year!

Humm, I’m not sure about it opening accidentally. Pull on the telescoping end and it retracts the cover around the tip exposing the writing end the pen. There is a detent that you overcome initially, but you could push down with moderate force the tip will be exposed. It’s not enough to worry about but I’d keep in mind that a hit to the writing end might expose the tip.

I first read about this in an email of 1-30-2001 from, http://thewritersedge.com/fisher.telescoping.cfm for the list price of $35.

Now David has supplied a missing ingredient, a better price, especially if you follow the link he posts ($19.50).

Thanks, David. Everyone has been satisfied with the service from Penwa so I went for it.

I had also tried here at an art supply store, Pearls, but they did not have this model. They did have a black bullet pen in a leather card case, that I had not seen before. I was going to try a local pen store, but I found out it had closed/moved?

Another place to buy exotic pens and refills is http://www.fahrneyspens.com/
Prices are sometimes competitive, sometimes list. They do have a wide range of refills. I used to walk there when I worked in Washington, D.C.

Regarding some of the refill comments. Fisher uses a thixotropic ink. I have heard it compared to rubber cement. The rotating ball cuts the thixotropic bonds and allows the ink to flow out. Making perfect ball bearings in a gravity environment is very difficult, so some refills will be better than others. If you have not dropped it and it writes poorly, you can exchange it. Sometimes I bother, sometimes I don’t. NOTE: There is a knock-off brand, that does not seem to be as good, so make sure you know what you have.

thixotropy, noun, The property exhibited by certain gels of becoming fluid when stirred or shaken and returning to the semisolid state upon standing. (Am.Her.Dict.)

I ordered another pen yesterday for a friend of mine. ACTUALLY, the first one was ordered for him, but he never got it! ;-) The link NOW should get you $19.50 instead of $20.00. No big deal, but it might be able to buy you a Coke now!

Keep checking the ebay site for "Fisher Telescoping" and most likely it will be penwa.com and it will have a link to their "ebay sales" site. That is where the ebay winning bid price is able to be used. If you go directly to their site and just try to order it, you will pay their full price: $35.00 (I think that is right.)

Good luck and I am glad that everyone is enjoying the pen!

Fast delivery, ordered late Friday nite
and it was in the mail box this morning!
Very nice pen, for sure a user. Its been in
and out of my pocket all day (along with
other stuff) and has stayed closed.
Only thing I would like is a finer point,
do they sell refills in different points?
Satisified, jones

BarnZ,
You are too punny!

Clay,
I'm glad you posted that link. I was trying to find that picture when jones was asking what type of ink they use. It's a cliche, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

Hopefully mine will arrive tomorrow. I don't know where they are shipping from, or where jones lives, but I ordered mine late Friday night also. BFC needs a special smilie/graemlin to show that anxious where's my knife/pen/watch/flashlight/etc look that we get when waiting for the mail or big brown truck.

David,
If you just go to Penwa directly, I believe they do offer a discount of 20 percent, in other words, $28, as opposed to the list of $35. Perhaps you have to join the mailing list to get the discount??? I just know I saw that price, and quickly backed up to the cheaper one!!!

I do find their site confusing, in that when you search their site, you actually seem to get links to other sites. For example, even though I can easily buy Fisher Space Pen refills at Pearls, I thought I might get one or two while I was ordering, if the price was right. I seemed to end up at another site, so gave up and completed my order...I wanted that pen!

I see Jones question on points has been answered by the posting of a link to the multiple colors, fine, medium, and broad points--depending on the color--of the refills. When I use a Fisher Space pen refill in my Parker, I find if I smooth off the front of the adapter, where it fits over the refill, it works better.

By the way, Parker has two ballpoint refills. The regular, and a black gold(??) higher end refill. The black ones generally write smoother and the ink is a little more intense, perhaps more or different pigment.

The regular Parker refills were available in XX Fine, if you can find them. Before that you could even get them in XXX fine. They were great when you needed to fit some words into a small space. I know they stopped making the XXX fine points, I hope they still make the XX fine. Just think how long the XXX fine would last, as it used so little ink. I know my blue one was purchased before 1979 and still writes. The black has quit, perhaps from drying, as I do not use them all that much.

Well I got mine today!! I'm fairly impressed with Penwa so far (though I admit there site is a little confusing). I really like the fact that the Telescoping Bullet is a little thicker than the traditional one. It is the same high quality of other Fisher products. The new refills do seem to write smoother than the older ones I had/have (as I said before I found a blue medium that I had that was dated 1985 and still writes fine). Personally I could live without the black logo and name on the barrel, but that is no big deal. I really like the noise it makes when opening and closing!

Thanks for the link Sproles.

Also, anyone going to Penwa for Sensa refills should just go to the Fisher pen refill page. They are exactly the same except the ones on the Sensa page are $4.00, and the Fisher page has them for $3.20.

Well...I am glad that I have FINALLY been able to contribute something that has helped so many people. Normally, I am the taker here and I only contribute my $0.02 worth, but apparently this has been a help to everyone. Glad to be able to slightly repay everyone for all of their help.

About the logo...give it a week or two and it should begin to wear off. Mine is beginning to show some signs of rubbing off. It shouldn't take long for the "cheap" logo to be gone completely. Good if you don't like it, bad if you do.

Glad to be of service!

David

The Ion looks cool adn very similar to the fisher telescoping pens. All in all though, I have been unimpressed by the way Cross pens write and the first thing I would do to any would be to replace the ink cartridge with a fisher refill.

Their Morphs are pretty cool looking as well.

I have a Cross Ion. It looks kind of neat, but in reality, it's much thicker than either a Fisher Bullet or Telescoping Pen. For me, it's too thick to keep comfortably in my pocket. I can carry my Bullet without even knowing it's there.

Secondly, I don't like the grip and how it feels in my hand. Kind of awkward. It doesn't extend to full length like either of the Fishers.

Thirdly, although it is a Gel Ink pen and writes REALLY smoothly, the ink is not permanent like other Gel Inks. It smears. :-/ Also, you have to buy the Cross Ion Gel Ink refills. No other options.

I'm just much happier with my Fisher pens.

I'm still loving mine. I think this pen is the equivalent of an automatic knife, in that it's really fun to just open and close. It makes a great sound in the process.

Thanks again for the heads up, David. I would have bought one eventually, but a great deal made it even better.

More good words for Penwa. Order the new telescoping Fisher on Weds night. It arrived in today's mail (Saturday). Paid under $19.50 for the pen and $5 for USPS Prioirity shipment. another happy Penwa customer.

Got my Telescoping Bullet today! I bucked the trend and ordered from the folks I always order fine pens from

The Franklin Co. out of Georgia http://thefranklinco.com carries just about every brand of fine writing instrument. Anyway, I went out to the local mall today and bought a black Fisher clip for it and it looks pretty cool with the blasted barrel and black etchings. As with the other Fisher pens I have, this one writes very smooth. I've always liked the bullet design but never really got one of the originals. The fact that this is retractable makes it easier to deploy and not having to worry about fumbling with the cap. Another winner from Fisher IMO! Definitely a must have for Fisher fans.

Paul - if you like these type retractable pens, you might want to look into getting the Cross Ion. If you think the Tele Bullet makes a cool sound when you operate it, the Ion puts out more noise

Stubby little pen but opens up to a compact writing tool that's easy to grip. Gel ink refill. I paid $19.95 @ the local Staples. Plus comes with an attachment to snap the pen onto your keyring.
