I first read about this in an email of 1-30-2001 from,
http://thewritersedge.com/fisher.telescoping.cfm for the list price of $35.
Now David has supplied a missing ingredient, a better price, especially if you follow the link he posts ($19.50).
Thanks, David. Everyone has been satisfied with the service from Penwa so I went for it.
I had also tried here at an art supply store, Pearls, but they did not have this model. They did have a black bullet pen in a leather card case, that I had not seen before. I was going to try a local pen store, but I found out it had closed/moved?
Another place to buy exotic pens and refills is
http://www.fahrneyspens.com/
Prices are sometimes competitive, sometimes list. They do have a wide range of refills. I used to walk there when I worked in Washington, D.C.
Regarding some of the refill comments. Fisher uses a thixotropic ink. I have heard it compared to rubber cement. The rotating ball cuts the thixotropic bonds and allows the ink to flow out. Making perfect ball bearings in a gravity environment is very difficult, so some refills will be better than others. If you have not dropped it and it writes poorly, you can exchange it. Sometimes I bother, sometimes I dont. NOTE: There is a knock-off brand, that does not seem to be as good, so make sure you know what you have.
thixotropy, noun, The property exhibited by certain gels of becoming fluid when stirred or shaken and returning to the semisolid state upon standing. (Am.Her.Dict.)
