Well here is my first tactical for 2010. I wanted to make this one more of a utility knife than a strait tactical deal. The choil notch on this one is made for overgripping and is fully radiused for that "no blister" effect we all like in a using knife. Also, the grips are removable to allow the knife to function as a spear in a survival situation. This knife will do alot of work and keep on cutting. I made one of these for my friend Scott, (my product testing department..lol), and he has been using it everyday and reporting nothing but positive feedback.
Check it out and see what you all think.

Thanks for looking and commenting!

Lamont

I got to hold this knife and it was just awesome! If I had had the coin it wouldn't be for sale here right now.

Fantastic piece! I love the blade shape, the choil, the jimping, the handle---heck, I love the whole package. Superb work!

Lamont, great knife. you can't make a lousy one.
but for me i would like to see this knife scaled down to no more than 7" OAL, because i really like small, powerful Utility style knives.
is that reasonable, or does a smaller size do better with a different blade profile ? (hope i'm not screwing up this For Sale thread)

Wow! Great piece. I like the handle proportionally and perfect blade. Sure would look good on my belt!

Thats the great thing about custom knives........you can have it any way you want. I don't think it would hurt at all to have a smaller version of this knife with that blade profile. It would all depend on what the user likes or dislikes.

Lamont,

Is this knife still available and can you estimate the hardness of the heat treat?

Thanks,

Rick

Reeek,
The knife is still available at the moment. My ATS-34 comes out between 58 and 60 on the C scale. I know this for a fact because I have access to a good rockwell tester at the machine shop I used to work at......The owner and I are good friends. I don't test every blade, but randomly through the year and it never changes.

Hey Balls, wait 'til you get this. guaranteed you'll be even more impressed when it's in hand. Mr. Coombs really does know how to make a superior knife.

You sure got that right, Roland. In fact I was fondling THIS ONE when I pulled the trigger on this purchase.

Thanks for the confirmation Lamont and sorry for the delay. My son and I just came in from dispatching a pesky coyote. Headed to Paypal right now.

WOW, nice one BB. so you know that a Coombs knife is a good one. i have 3 from Lamont. one is like a Randall #7 and has Box Elder Burl & Leather spacers for the handle. it is one of the most beautiful FBs i own. even nicer than my Randall #25-5 with Stag & leather.

I'm so pleased that everyone is enjoying my knives. Thanks again to all for the super comments and feedback.
Brass Balls, congrats on the coyote! I have a large field behind my house and there are too many coyotes running around here. I shoot em every time I see one.
Sorry you missed out on this one Reeek.........if you want I can put another of these on order for you.
