Could it be that Wally World is finally losing it's stranglehold on certain manufacturers?

I didn't know that Walmart's online site had two different prices for the Buck 110. From what another poster pointed out, it can be found for $38 if you order it from a certain area of the US, but $60 if you get it from another area of the US.
It's like... Well, you can afford to pay more if you live near this store, (like they know everyone's financial situation).
Hey, I have an idea, how about selling it online for one price to anyone in the US that goes and uses your website, thank you!

Walmart is a scourge on the public.
When the local Walmart stores first opened years ago I shopped there at times and didn't think anything about it. My wife has now worked for Walmart for 15 years, and I'll never go there again if I don't absolutely have to.....

Yes, Sir... There have been so many stories like this. Truly sad 😔

Buck moved out of California because it wanted to stay afloat while continuing to be an American made knife company. For the most part, they succeeded.

With all the online buying that people do nowadays, Walmart brick & mortar stores are not as important to well grounded companies anymore. I think Buck's model 110 situation with Walmart is a sign that Buck wants to be in full control of their own destiny
👍🇺🇸👍

It used to be SEARS that screwed over suppliers that way! Anyone remember the Gunmaker Hi Standard? or actual Made in America Zenith TV sets?

I actually don't believe my local WM has much to sell in the form of USA made knives. Ontario Knife Company had a few models about a year ago there, but have not seen any of them recently.

The sporting goods section at my local WM still brings in some ammo, but not much at all, and they don't sell firearms at all.

Part of it is breaking up with Walmart and part is bucks greed, plain and simple.
Look at some of the prices in their website.
Stupid high.
As for the 110,even apart from Walmart, they're going up in price because they're using ebony....the world's most expensive wood.
60 is high to me for a 110,but using ebony justifies it a bit.
Those scales on them probably cost 10 bucks to buck, and then tooling to cut such a resinous wood...it all adds up to more cost

I haven’t checked out the knife section recently at Walmart. As previously mentioned, their prices are no different than the big online knife retailers, like USA, Dlt, etc, and I’d much rather support smaller dealers like them.
Plus they aren’t up to date on what’s “hot” in the knife world. Same old selection of Bucks and Kershaws. It’d be cool to see more brands in the stores, IMO Civivi would make out big if they sold to WM, with their button locks, decent steel and scale materials.

I dont know if it applies, but there are sneaky things online retailers do. One of them is adjust prices based on geodata.

One thing I used to hear, I'm not sure if it was true, was that manufacturers would make their products for Walmart cheaper qualty. Even for China, I heard some manufacturers had a special assembly line just for Walmart.
I always figured it's better to buy elsewhere even if it's a bit higher...but I'm wondering if any of that is actually true

I won't shop there since they stopped selling guns and ammo. F 'em, I don't care if they sold Buck 110's for a dime.

I was out and about this morning, and since there was a Walmart near my travels, I stopped in to see if the price increase was a thing yet, (with sometimes old inventory having old prices). But, nope, $60 is the current price.
I guess I just had to see it with my own two eyes 😅
I just so happened to visit a local Walmart this evening. The 110 is still priced at $60 there too. I also looked at a Blur and Leek, but did not pull the trigger.

Tonight my local Wally had Gerbers, Kershaws, Bucks, Camilluses and Ozark Trails in the knife cabinet. I think that was it.

Other than the USA made Buck 110, all the other knives they have at my local Wally World are made in China.
They sell the Camillus brand, but that USA made knife company went defunct in 2007, the brand then having been sold off and is like the modern Schrade brand, mostly China made as well. Yup, the few times I go to WM, I always swing by the knife section just to peek... but, that's their new norm. I mean, it was pretty much like that even a few years ago, but it has gotten worse, with made in China having taken over... Except the Buck 110 and sometimes the Buck 119... They manage to have become the last of the Mohicans as far as their US sourced knives.

...or, they are still buying at a deep discount and simply decided to sell at the same price as other outlets. Profit!

Not true about having things built cheaper for them. I used to think so,until I worked as quality control for a major supplier. Doesn't make fiscal sense to set up a line to do that.
Their lower prices is buying in bulk and making manufacturers compete.

My post above will show you the markup on their knives.
I chased all over scooping em up and they actually went lower down to $7.

Off with it’s head

WalMart put my favorite gun/gear shop out of business…ran by a good old boy who had been putting food on his family’s table for decades selling hard to get camping/hunting products. Try finding 45-70 government ammo (or any other obscure cartridge) on Walmart shelves…he always had a steady supply.

I don't care for Walmart. I have a super walmart, 24 hr. one stop shop, like 5 minutes away from my house, and no matter how low their prices are, I would much rather grocery shop at one of the local grocery chains or famer's market, go to a local sporting goods store for sporting needs, go to the local pool store for pool stuff, and support the local nurseries for garden stuff. I'll drop the extra $ and time/gas it takes to go to multiple different stores, just to avoid supporting that place...

I usually find myself needing to go there maybe once or twice a year; last minute, kids birthday party gift, or whatever, or if I'm out of town on vacation and unfamiliar with an area, and in need of something, then "oh look, a wally world!" But far more often then not, whenever I can, I avoid that place almost religiously.
