Counterfeit, anyone?

Ill just answer here real quick then drop it.
1. I don't think so, I was being hyperbolic, honestly not even sure where I though they sued anyone.
2. dhgate, alibaba etc all have corporate American offices, besides my point isn't that they should be suing anybody, they should be working to get the United states to stop allowing fakes to be imported or shipped to people so easily.
3. no, because suing Ebay doesn't even solve the problem, nor does yelling at knife makers ( which they did do)

anyways, I apologize, I didn't see the rule to keep this on topic just about fake pictures.

I've bought two counterfeit knives. One was supposed to be a genuine tanto -- one of the models that was DLC coated and had that prepper's name and website etched on the blade. I knew what to look for and got my money back. The other was a genuine imitation Voyager that I suspected was a counterfeit, but bought anyway to compare quality. It was way too heavy, so I knew the manufacturers used steel bolsters, not aluminum. It's very heavy, but the blade seems to be at least as good as an AUS8A, maybe a bit better. Not as good as the BD1 most likely.

I contacted the manufacturers and asked them what kind of steel they used and they told me up front. Their D2 means its whatever steel they happen to find. Apparently they throw it all into a vat and you get what they get. Never had any problems with rust or going dull super fast. The edge holding is actually quite good. The weight adds some ease in cutting, but too heavy to carry around. But it seems built quite well. They also don't use Teflon washers, which is a plus. The handles/frame are/is exactly like Cold Steel's.

Wish CTS would start selling to knife makers again. The company treats us like we've got one boil short of Job. Contempt. Don't know who they're selling to.

..

I have always been somewhat fascinated by the CS lovers and haters. I suppose I have a foot in each camp. I hate their ads, but love many of their knives. I was aware that alibaba and dhgate have been targeted as purveyors of fakes. Thank you for the pictures. I hope that I never get too old to learn. I recently picked up a blemished Spartan in AUS-10. I couldn't find the blemish. I am not sure what to do with it. Maybe I could carry it, hoping to look young again.

Below is a photo of a Machete sold on a website in the UK for £12.99

It looks very similar to an Cold Steel Jungle Machete that sells in the UK for around £32.00 the length of the blade appears to be the similar if not the same.

The website i found this on has what looks like other Cold Steel Machetes for sale under the LASHER label.

Are these clones, fakes, rebrands, What gives.

Looks like a case of blatant re-branding to me. Apparently some of Cold Steel's manufacturers are less than scrupulous, to say the least, selling the company's product designs to firms that don't have any qualms about engaging in intellectual property theft. It seems to be a growing problem.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't know if there's much that Cold Steel can do, but at least you've exposed the fraud.

I think Lasher actually makes some of cold steels machetes

Yeah Lasher is a South African manufacturer, and they make a lot of Cold Steel's machetes. From what I could find, they seem to sell their stuff primarily in South Africa and the UK, so not sure if they are reusing CS designs without permission, if they licensed CS to use their designs under the CS brand name, or if CS allows them to sell the designs under their own brand name but only outside the US. Basically, if you like the design, get the Lasher if it's that much cheaper. It's literally the exact same manufacturer as the one from CS, just with their own brand name on it.

I have an Cold Steel South African Machete, And i may a well get a couple of these Lasher branded version if they are legit as they are cheap as chips.

Thanks for the reply`s

"Lasher are an extremely popular company from South African who make tools for agriculture & some of the leading knife brands around the world. Buying Lasha allows you to own the same tool without paying extra to have a UK popular brand name on your item."

Well i received the Lasher Jungle Machete, And the blade is stamped "COLD STEEL SOUTH AFRICA" the finish on the blade is not a good as more expensive COLD STEEL branded version, But at only 1/3 of the cost it`s worth the money.

One problem it does not come with a sheath, But for only £12.99 it still worth it.

I hate to see counterfeits sold on eBay as authentic knives. The buyer thinks he's getting a good deal when all he's really buying is potentially dangerous junk. The situation harms Cold Steel's reputation, too.

Clearly fake ricasso.

Note the squared-off grind on the pommel.

Buyer, beware!

Yep, seen that one for a while...can't believe anyone would think that huge notch/choil would be there on a real knife

I contacted Cold Steel with a link to all the fakes he sold (one went for over $250!!!). They never got back to me and this DB continues to profit at Cold Steel's and the buyers expense. Ebay could care less. As long as they get their 10%

I just discovered a copy of the Trailmaster by Coleman. Its listed as a Coleman fixedblade on Amazon or as the Coleman Troublemaker at Grindworx. I saw the MTech copy here also. Since they're not counterfeits, just copies, were they licensed by CS?

I doubt it. I don't think you can patent or copyright a blade shape. Cold steel is guilty of this itself. The R1 Military Classic and UWK are obvious copies.
