Country of Origin; does it matter to you?

No, I'll buy an Italian or German blade, they are often as good as anything we have. I'm looking at my HEST right now. Italian company German niolox steel.

Yes. Knives are a rare instance of where we have a real choice. People like to say 'oh, you hate Chinese knives, better not look where your TV is from'.

I know my TV is Chinese. I can't buy a tv made anywhere else, I have no choice.

I prefer to use that available choice.

There is one country That starts with a C that i avoid whenever possible, Pakistan and India mostly, though their classic older weapons can be very desirable.

Other than that, I look at each country of origin as they come, but I do have a soft spot to buy USA made first if possible.

Yes I won't buy Knives made in China. Whenever possible I avoid buying anything made in China. Obviously sometimes it's impossible to avoid but not with knives.

I prefer made in USA, but will not hesitate buying any knives made in Western Europe, Japan, Australia, or any true US allie for that mater. Taiwan is a grey area for me, haven't bought any knives from there and don't plan to but might consider it.

See, your position is quite sound. The "TV made in China etc." example is made when people make hypocritical remarks bashing where a knife is made. You know, the ones that go on walls of text rants.

Are the Chinese capable of making quality like Japan, England, Germany, the U.S.A., and other places known for quality.

The Chinese can build anything to anyone's specs. Alot of the crap products that gave them that bad reputation has something to do with companies' decision to save money also.

I look for USA made knives when possible. I do buy some Spyderco's from Japan and Taiwan as they are a quality product and a solid company.

Without a doubt. Chinese were capable of amazing things back in the day. It's just this new modern idea of fast buck and shortcuts that's wrecking everything. China is not shy of craftsman.

I personally don't care for the country of origin as long as the product is of quality. For most of us who have been collecting and using knives for a while can tell quality when quality is there.

I used to be a staunch anti-Chinese knives person (for the same reasons that Scurvy elegantly stated), however, I have purchased several Chinese-sourced Kershaws, and I have to confess that I love each one. That said, I most likely would not purchase any other knives from China.

No. It's the knife manufacturer that matters to me.

Additionally, with collaborations I take into account all parties involved. For instance, with the Hi Jinx I'm good with CRKT, Ken Onion and LionSteel.

No it doesn't really matter where it is made as long as the U. S. company that imported the product has a good reputation for paying the manufacturer for good quality.
