Country of Origin; does it matter to you?

It does...but when it comes to Asian imports, I only buy a knife if it's made in Taiwan, or Japan. Current collection includes USA, Switzerland, England, and Spain; oh, and Taiwan as mentioned.

** I forgot to add Japan...I have a few Spyderco's made in Japan.:o

As long as China keeps cloning I'm not buying ANYTHING made there, in the way of knives. I feel it's all very closely related.

Are the Chinese capable of making quality like Japan, England, Germany, the U.S.A., and other places known for quality.

Of course. They will make what people will buy.

Will I buy a "Chinese" knife? If it's good, sure. (and not a knockoff.) It's a global economy. If, say, one boycotts Chinese sourced KAIs, and that loss of business gets somebody at Tualatin "downsized," then what have I accomplished?

I always try to support U.S. made products first, then I look at the company secondly that does the importing and see their level of QC. Sometimes you don't have a choice.

To me, it's all about the integrity of the Manufacturer and not where they are located. If they are honest and upfront about their products and materials, I have no issues. I hate counterfeiters, disdain knock-offs, but properly licensed 'tribute' knives ok by me. I think the problem many of us have is not knowing which companies dabble in one or more of these areas and so choose to avoid the country of origin all together. I can understand and appreciate that.

I prefer USA blades but I'll definitely buy from other countries if I like the design and the quality is good

Typically I will buy a knife based on its quality, if it is made in China, I find myself a little surprised, but not disappointed. My first ever knife was a Chinese knife, which I still have to this day, not great quality wise but it at least got me interested in knives. I have a soft spot for anything made in Japan, I always find them more desirable and will likely pay a little more then I would have otherwise. Same goes with the Russian Zlatoust knives...

Very well said Brett, and I echo your sentiment.

No, company reputation and the quality of the product is all that matters to me.
I certainly don't regret buying my made in China Tenacious or made in Taiwan Rat-1.

I like buying local but won't shy away from foreign made. Families on the other side of the planet need food on their tables too.

I used to not like knives made in China/Taiwan, but I got over it a few months ago..... Today I got my first Taichung Spyderco, the Techno, and I love it!

Where a knife is made doesn't make any difference to me at all. The only things I care about are quality, cost, and the company that stands behind it.

I will only buy made in USA. If we support our American companies, maybe they can stay in business and keep jobs here.

Yes, it matters to me. I can deal with many countries but China puts me off, especially when it comes to something as personal as a knife.

People, not nations.
My nation of Sweden is very small and I am blessed with family and friends from all over the world. I buy due to quality, price and desire. Country of manufacture might play in to all of those variables but is not one itself.

"It matters not which colour the cat as long as it catches rats."
-old Chinese proverb (I had to)

The brand or manufacturer is more important to me than the country itself. As Lycosa said, quality is quality.

I don't care at all, as long as it's not a knock off. I'm interested to see what our forumites from other countries have to say about this.
