Country of Origin; does it matter to you?

Are the Chinese capable of making quality like Japan, England, Germany, the U.S.A., and other places known for quality.

Yes they are capable but they usually do not and are known for poorly made products but when pushed for quality than they are perfectly able.

It does matter to me where knives are made and buy mostly USA made but do have others that are also known for their quality products.

Yes. Knives are a rare instance of where we have a real choice. People like to say 'oh, you hate Chinese knives, better not look where your TV is from'.

I know my TV is Chinese. I can't buy a tv made anywhere else, I have no choice.

I prefer to use that available choice.

Same here. I carry US made knives or nothing. It's amazing how it really wasn't that long ago that you could buy a pair of levis that were made in the US.
Now? Forget it and the quality pair Levis today isn't the same.:D

It isn't a total deal breaker but I try to avoid sending any of my $ to China for a knife. A knife is one of the few items I can think of that you have other options available to you. I have enough made in China stuff in my house.

Don't really care. I'm not American so "made in USA" is the exact same thing as "made in Germany" or "made in France" or "made in Taiwan". I'm not about to boycott knives that aren't made in my country. My options would be rather limited. I'd rather have a Taiwan Spyderco than a USA Bear & Sons.

I know my TV is Chinese. I can't buy a tv made anywhere else, I have no choice.
Most of us, including you in VA, can buy TVs made elsewhere other than China. Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Taiwan, and other countries.

I will buy American when i can and will pay extra to get it that way. I have almost zero Chinese knives. I pretty much avoid made in China when it comes to food related products

The countries I avoid are because of their labor practices and the political systems those countries use to dominate production.

I prefer U.S. made blades. Actually almost all of my current knives are made here. I avoid Chinese made knives, to me there is no pride of ownership with them. Kershaw has the best China line that I know of, but the U.S. made Kershaws are better IMO. I like the cryo and kind of hate that its made in China. I sold it along with a few others and got my first ZT so they did me some good. I have no problem buying Japanese, Taiwanese or pretty much any other foreign made knife though. But I prefer made in America.

Yes. I also try to buy American whenever possible. I just got a spyderco techno...I love the knife so far, but man I wish it was made in the states. Almost all of my guns and knives are made in the states.

It doesn't matter to me one iota. We live in a global economy, I'm entirely unconcerned about which corner of the globe my dollars end up in. What I care about are materials, design, price, and QC (most importantly). As it turns out, most of the knives that meet my minimum requirements for QC and design are USA made, so I end up buying predominantly american knives without making a conscious decision to do so.

I have absolutely no qualms about buying foreign knives if the quality is up to snuff though.

Not at all. The quality of the knife is what matters.

I enjoy being able to support American jobs by buying American knives and knives with American steel/other materials, but I like knives from everywhere and have some fantastic knives from every continent except Antarctica.

Yeah I prefer usa above all else, but I dont mind at all anything made in japan, germany, italy and similar quality manufacture. Im to the point where I dont really care about taiwan or china made if the company, quality and materials are good but I will always prefer usa and take it if I can get it. Theres some taiwan and china knives that are too good to resist just because of the fact thats its taiwan or china, a few that come to mind are many cold steels, sog fixed blades, ontario rat series, spyderco tenacious series and crkt shenanigan (the aluminum one is an excellent flipper) and so on.

I buy from companies, not countries. While I would like to buy everything made in the USA, there is a global economy , and I buy quality, generally related to a specific company.

I like owning US made blades and stuff but I won't limit myself. By the way if you want to buy American, American Apparel clothes are awesome (slim fitting) and Thorogood boots are like half price Redwings that still are still amazing quality.

There is one country That starts with a C that i avoid whenever possible

Hey, Canada ain't that bad. :D

I kind of prefer knives made in certain countries, but I have bought some from countries I like less if the knife itself is good enough.
