CPK and Whisky (or other vices), a pictorial

BIGDORK BIGDORK nice!! I’ve been checking out Rich’s pipes for a while, he does make some pretty nice ones! Good attention to detail also.

No jail or trouble for me, it’s too close to hunting season to screw that up 😂. For the Wheatley’s, ask the liquor stores that carry BT already. When I asked my local for it, they didn’t even know it was available until they asked the distributor.

Love Eagle Rare, on of the finest drinks I ever had was Eagle Rare 17 (on a vendors tab) quite a few years ago. Tasted like vanilla and honey and something ethereal. I see prices for the 10 year are now around $100/bottle - I remember paying like $35 for it when I first got into bourbon.

Got another interesting vodka in the other day. Distilled entirely from grapes (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunie, and Chardonnay) and finished in oak casks. It's a nice treat.

At what point is it no longer vodka? I mean, that almost sounds like a cognac or something.

No potatoes to be seen. Wine based, aged in wood. It's freakin amber colored...

It sounds lovely and I would like to try it. I'm just curious what makes it "vodka"?

It's non-binary.

Liquor-fluid.

Vodka- I think it’s more the how it’s made than what it’s made of. Usually made with grains or even potatoes. But it’s always distilled multiple times to get it up in ABV and as pure to water and ethanol as possible. That’s kind of the goal of vodka - clear, tasteless (or like water). So they are using a pretty loose definition of vodka.
All that being said, if I saw it somewhere I’d have to try it.

Unrelated but related.
What is sold as schnapps in America is some gross syrupy crap. I have a neighbor from Germany that brings back bottles of schnapps from his home town any time he goes back. It is delicious. Neat. Delicious.

I got a bottle of grapeseed oil yesterday...it's sourced from France and made from the seeds left over after pressing the grapes in making wine.

I haven't attempted to drink it yet. 🙃

(I guess if you can't drink it it's supposed to be good for cooking because it can take high heat before smoking.)

Drinking, smoking, French grapes. No wonder we have bad habits.

I think the Cap’n pretty much said it. It’s technically vodka due to the distillation process but I’m also of the mind that they are playing fast and loose with the label.

It does have some vodka like qualities but also has a flavor profile that you might expect from a cognac or whiskey - a bit of sweetness and oak.

Best vodka I have had yet is one that was made in Greece and olives were used in the distillation process. Pure, clean, and smooth - just really, really good.
