CPK "Knife love" ? Actual use pics. Not for Glamour shots

Yes sir, there’s a lot to love there. It’s an all-around versatile beast, isn’t it ? The HDFK offers a similar kind of special feel and look….maybe more so, IMO. That said, the more brutish size and acute tip of the SS SDFK probably make it a better zombie killer and that, my friend, is the standard that all knives must be judged by ! 🤪
I need to check out this SDFK and compare it to my HDFK, which is probably my favorite fixed blade knife.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts. I don’t have a SDFK to compare to but I have pitted the HDFK and SS SDFK against eachother on a 1/2 dozen different tasks. I’d imagine that the SDFK and SS SDFK are so similar that the differences would be minimal.

The HDFK is definitely a better cutter and IMO, more aesthetically pleasing. That fuller and blade profile….🔥🔥🔥 Albeit the SS SDFK cuts well for a 1/4 inch thick blade. On a hike or in camp I prefer the HDFK. At work, it’s the SS SDFK. If I could only carry one knife for all situations, it’d be a UF2.

Again, this is all just my opinions and experience and as CPK keeps developing such phenomenal knives, subject to change. I still have a handful left to try. What a great hobby, right ?

I’m sure they are both a powerhouse of a knife. I think it boils down to what you want in each one, and which one you have the opportunity to buy. Gotta be quick and can’t be too picky with CPKs for sale. Even better, you own both!

We had a few wrist sized limbs growing out of the trunk of one of the trees in the back yard, it was a good excuse to break out the MC. It’s by far my favorite big knife. Only problem I had was that there weren’t enough limbs to chop and the MC was hungry.

It's that time of year again. Not sure how many years I've been thrashing bramble with this thing, just finished clearing a trail through 100 yards of evil Scotch broom. The 4v is holding up well considering how much I neglect cleaning after use, ran it over a honing rod and right back to laser status.

I had both the sdfk and ssdfk. The most noticeable differences would to me were the weight reduction and better slicing ability of the ssdfk.

If you're using it to process large game, baton wood, or clear branches you'll probably only notice the weight difference, which isn't huge.

If you're cooking at camp and you're slicing onions, you'll be able to tell the ssdfk is slightly better at it, but it's nothing drastic.

Either knife is fantastic and worth their keep and then some. You'd be hard pressed to find anything better.

Wife: "Hey, I made you a batch of fettuccine alfredo for your work trip."
Me: "Oh, cool!"
Wife: "There's an elk roast to go with it. I just put it in the sous vide, then pan seared it and sealed it back up."
Me: "Wow... deluxe!" ... looks at food ... "Hmmmn. Not sliced... OK If I take one of the kitchen slic..."
Wife: "NO."
Me: ...
Wife: "What? They don't have knives in the apartment?"
Me: "They have crappy Walmart micro-serrated ones. I hate the way they..."
Wife: "You are NOT taking one of *my* kitchen knives."
Me: ....
Wife: "What? You're short on knives?"
Me: "But those aren't really for..."
Wife: "They're not for what? Cutting things? They're not slicey enough? Every time you buy another one you tell me how versatile they are. Don't you have one that's long enough and sharp enough to slice up a a roast?"
Me: "Hmmmn. Probably..."

It's not opening a hole in a masonry wall, and I did not have to stab through a door and the fellow behind it to obtain the pound of flesh, but the shiv does a fine job on a rare elk roast. Maybe I could have been more artful with the slicing but I was hungry.

You know what works great on blackberries? Flamethrowers. Or so I've heard. I do not have a flamethrower. Yet.

You know what else works great on blackberries? A SDFK. I do have one of those and it's a dream. Basically feels like doing snap cuts on thin air, no resistance at all, like a hot knife through butter.

Time for a cold one.

Have you lopped the same stand with your camp shiv 2.0?
Would enjoy reading about a comparison of that task.
👍
