I've been a bit occupied the last couple of weeks. Silas developed an injury on his tail from his frequent "happy tail". It's happened in the past and it's always been able to heal up ok. Well, this time it didn't go so well. Despite our best efforts to treat it and keep him fitted with a cone, his tail was so long that he could still get to it and during a brief few minutes of no supervision, he ended up chewing about an inch off the tip.
To the vet we went where they proceeded to amputate between 6-8 inches of his tail. You'd think a shortened tail would make it more difficult for him to get to it. Well, I thought that and I was wrong. He chewed out all of his stitches so back to vet I went yesterday to get him sewn back up. Now we are keeping him sedated as much as possible and we've rigged his cone with all sorts of crap to make it harder for him to access.
It's an expensive obsession. If he keeps it up, I'm going to have to change his name to Nubbins.
