Since hearing about this a week ago, I've really been obsessing about this knife. While I love ZDP, SG2, VG-10 and CPM-D2, I'm really not a steel snob. But the chance to try this stuff out on a Shallot is killing me!

So since there's not a thread dedicated to this new creation, I thought I'd start one.

As Boxant has been to the OD-1, I am to this new Shallot. So every few days I'll bump this up and ask GG if there's any news on it! :D

Hey GG! Any updates on the CPM-110V Shallot?

Well, blades were cut this week, was hoping for finished product this month, but now it looks like early Oct. Getting closer.

Has there been mention of street price or MSRP? If so, I musta missed it...sorry! Work has been a little up and down this past week. Haven't had any free time to cruise. :grumpy:

Standard handles or something different? If not any chances in the future of something like titanium for the Shallot?

I could get behind that idea...the MSRP would put us around $100 a piece.

Wow, same price as the ZDP-189 Shallot, this is good news. That means S110V isn't so much harder to process that it warrants a price increase (over other super steels), which means it should be much more readily accepted than your average super duper steel types (which are near impossible to use for manufacturing).

Just to give an example of my steel classification system.

420/soft mushy AUS-8 = Blah.

440C/1095 = Ok.

VG-10/S30V = Nice.

S110V/ZDP-189 = Super.

CPM S125V/CPM MPL1/ CPM 15V=Super duper.

CPM S125V/CPM MPL1/ CPM 15V with Friction Forging process = Super Duper Whooper.

The timing couldn't be worse.....:(

By the time it comes out a couple of custom knives might need paying for.......oh well. i can wait until X-mas! :D

Cutting serrations into that kind of steel doesn't sound fun or does it really matter?
Will it be the standard looking serrations ya'll are using now?
1/3rd of the blade as usual?

mike

Another quick Q: what type of finish on the blade? Satin, stonewashed, or coated? And what grind are ya gonna put on it?

Whoa whoa whoa. What's the difference between this CPM-110v shallot and the ZDP Composite Shallot? Am I going to need to pine for two different Shallots now that I'll probably never be able to afford or get my hands on?
