So I want to get a few bars of this and try it out the size i want is 1/8 thick, buy 1 and half inches wide. I talked to bruce over at crucible about small orders and prices. At the time i also inquired about getting some cpm d2. It has been 2 weeks since my first contact. i made a second contact with bruce a few days later as he had said he would give me a price once he consulted another guy. well that was a week ago and im getting the feeling that bruce/crucible doesnt want to deal with small amounts. i didnt want alot just a few bars to try out. i have looked at knife suply houses and none seem to have the size i want. that was why i tried crucible direct. In my intial contact with bruce he made it sound like it was not a big deal to make a small purchase. I really fell like im getting blown off and dont want to make a 3rd call. Any other RELIABLE source for cpm 154 in the size i need?.

there is a min order of 50$ but it sounded like you were over that
so im not sure what to tell you sept for try AKS and pops

i thought i ordered small form crucible but i guess when gettign 12 foot of 1.5 x1/8 bar and half a sheet of some other stuff it adds up quick

i just checked also and didnt see either listed. D2 was listed but i was after cpm d2 to try no reg d2

Hey guys, for some reason the steel just disappeared from pop's website. I *just* got a catalog from him and it still lists the steel. I'd give him a call or shoot an email.

Never mind, I see it now

You will have to call Pops to get it . You are correct that it does not show on his website but he has it. He also has some M4 available.

I asked him for the exact same thing, and he did the exact same thing to me. He said he had to consult someone on the price, then he'd get back to me. Needless to say, he never did. I assumed he had blown me off, and now I see that it's his standard operating procedure. What a JERK!

After I realized he wasn't going to call me back, I called Pop and ordered the steel without any hassles. I just wish there was another company making CPM so I wouldn't have to buy Crucible's products.

My rep from Crucible is Kerrie Kengor
Kerrie.Kengor@crucible.com
Contact her with your problem and see if there is someone else you should talk to. Some of the people there are just too busy to get back to you in a timely fashion. I have never had a problem. Kerrie comes by to visit about twice a year and brings note pads and a snack, along with the latest news on new steels.

BTW, Pop's is a great guy and FAST in response to calls and orders.

i'm going with another plus for pops supply. he's the man:thumbup:

but i normally deal with admiral for steel. never any fuss and muss about anything. good prices they always have what i need. friendly as can be. i think i normall deal with a guy name cleo.

i called them a month or so back for some cpm154, just got a 6' bar 1/8" thick 1 1/2" wide. no problem. i asked if they could send me samples of the sandvik steels, they say no problem shipped them right along. one was a 1' wide bar adn the other 1 1/2" wide. both were 1/8" thick and 1' long. pretty damn nice of them. good move on their part.

i regret to say i've had nothing but bad experiences with crucible. they always give me the run around, and it always ends with "well all we have is
6' X 3' and you need to buy the whole thing. or say its a big fuss to cut it to 1 1/2" wide and then they quote me a price anywhere between 50% to 100% more than admiral will for the same piece of steel.

rant off. good luck with steel man. check out admiral, but if you just need a few feet go for pops he'll take care of you. and you can egt a lot more than just steel there. and some damn good knowledge from the guy. he knows his stuff. good luck

Ranger Original sells CPM 154 1/8 and 3/32 by the inch - both mill finish and precision ground.

Note - Crucible tells me that CPM D2 has no advantage over regular D2.

Just ordered from crucible the other day....no problems, I use to order steel from Pops now I only order belts and other stuff.

When I first started I to ordered from Admiral, I incurred to many problems the last and final time I received a bar or PG stock that had a bad bad twist not bent twisted.

I really do not think they are intentionally blowing you off, but it goes like this as soon as you get off the phone another guy is waiting to talk with them that goes on all day. Some one is going to fall through the cracks, back your conversation up with an email and you will see better results.

All CPM steels have an advantage over legacy steel's its in the process, if anything the one advantage is in the way the steel finishes. Not to mention the grain refinement, other wise why pay more for the CPM. Rob who at crucible is saying that, any time I talk with those guys Scott/Bruce to get a better understanding of the CPM process its always positive.

I have had the same experience with crucible. I wasn't looking for one piece either. It seems the Tx guys have a good rep, but up here in the Northeast the service doesn't seem to impressive. If you just need a piece or two, another vote for Pop's, great guy who will treat you right.

Be careful when ordering from Crucible. They charged my checking credit card two times after I allready paid for my order. It was a clerical error but the second time just about zeroed out my checking acct. It took them over a week to credit the funds back into my acct. Once was bad enough but twice really torqued me off.

They have great steel and my customer service was also good at least for a $160 order. But if I ever order again it will be with a money order only.

FYI!
