I put this through my full battery of testing, 5/8" Manila rope cardboard and Wood.

The knife was reprofiled to 15 DPS and sharpened with a 400 Grit SIC stone before testing.

1st off was the 5/8" Manila Rope, the knife made 720 slicing cuts until the test was finished at a measured 20 LBS of down force, would cut printer paper clean after. There was no noticeable chips or other noticeable edge damage after.

2nd was the Cardboard, I stropped the edge a few times to clean it up on a SIC loaded strop. Cut up all the cardboard seen here and the knife would slice printer paper clean after.

3rd and last was the wood, cut the wood taking thick and thin slices, did very well as you can see, the knife wasn't sharpened after the cardboard.

In Closing.

The Manix 2 performed extremely well overall and I didn't notice any problems with blade play at all. It was comfortable in hand and didn't notice any hot spots when cutting, CPM S110V performed as expected at the 62-63 RC range.

Thank you Jim. Excellent stuff as usual. I believe this one will go down as a classic due to the price/performance for Spyderco. It'll be tough to top this one. Great scores for a production knife. We have really come a long way.

Joe,

Yeah we have come a very long way since the 1970's in production knives, like having ray guns instead of muzzle loaders.. :D

The last 3 have been winners, last 2 Mule Teams, K390 and S110V and this knife..... For around $100 each....

It is just about like that. Some people think electronics are the only things that have changed radically in the last 40 years or so. 'taint so.

Well, I'm glad that it didn't disappoint. Thanks for taking the time to do this, Jim. Though, I'm sure you had fun.

Two thumbs up for the Manix 2! Spyderco hits another home run for sure. I was hesitant to buy this one as the regular Manix is a little too big for me, but this knife is just right. Not to mention great edge holding...

Thanks Jim for taking the time to put this thru your steps. How much linear feet of corrugated cardboard do you think it cut? As always a great job. DM

How was the blade to sharpen up? Last time I tried to work on S110V I barely left a scratch on it.

I wouldn't even want to guess, it was quite a bit though. :)

Pretty easy, I use SIC Stones and they will eat anything. :)

Hey David,

Here's my cardboard cutting media. Costco milk box that holds 2 gallons. I can usually get 55 - 60 cuts out of one box, and the cuts in the handle holes are shorter, the others are probably close to a foot long. So say I can cut 50 feet out of one box. I like these boxes because they are pretty consistent and clean. This box was cut by my Manix 2 S110V, and the before and after was almost unnoticeable. It would drag slightly when cutting newspaper after this box in a couple of spots on the blade, and it was cleanly slicing before the cardboard. It would still easily pop arm hair after the cardboard.

I would consider this excellent performance, one of these boxes will easily completely dull many knives such as a Mora or a knife in 420HC. I cut fast when doing this and the blade gets warm.

I reprofiled my Spyderco Southfork in S90V on my Edgepro coarse waterstones in less than 10 minutes. Sharpening takes even less time. So much for being hard to sharpen.

Thanks for another great review Jim. The consistency in your testing makes for great data and comparisons!

I've cut 5/8 rope for many hundreds of cuts in testing (Strider S110V, Farid Rex121, Vanadis 10) and I can imagine your satisfaction of finally reaching your endpoint and the fantastic results! I still have callouses on my hands from my test 2 weeks ago.

Thanks again,

I added up how much rope I have used since I started that thread, it's been over 700 FT of 5/8" Manila...

Oh yeah, believe I am glad once I am finished with the high wear steels...... You know that I mean... ;)

If I remember I also used my EP 120 grit stone on my South Fork too...

But used the 320 grit Congress on the Manix 2 to reprofile it... The bevels were pretty close to 15 DPS already..

Just ordered up a Manix 2 in S110V. :D Will be the first Manix 2 I've owned and very interested to compare it to the Axis Locks I've carried for 15 years and really like.

Ordered a Native 5 forum knife in S110V about nine months ago but have not received it to date. Starting to wonder if I ever will...

Wow! Thanks Jim. 720 is incredible. You must have hands of steel. I can't imagine how blistered up my paws would be. How thin do you think you can take this knife? 20d inclusive?

NO, I wouldn't take it down past 15 DPS as it's .030" behind the edge so it's on the thicker side.

Now you could have a Custom Smith regrind it down to around .015" behind the edge or so then yeah you could go with 10 DPS if you wanted to.

The spring is stronger than the other ones so it might take some time to break it in.
