CPM S110V Manix 2 Full Review and testing.

I just got mine in today. I took it to a .5 micron mirror edge. Just for kicks. I noticed, as Ankerson had previously posted, the angle was very close to 15 dps. That's where I took mine, and it didn't take hardly anything to re-profile it. I bet it was a 16-17 from the factory. At that angle and level of refinement, it will easily sever a free hanging hair. :) So far I really like this little pocket laser! I can see it getting some carry time very soon......like today.

How was the blade to sharpen up? Last time I tried to work on S110V I barely left a scratch on it.

I've sharpened S90V and S110V to mirror edges and it's painless with the correct equipment/grits/practice.

I agree with Rev. I used the W/E diamonds to 1000 grit. Then ceramics to 1600 grit, the leather strops and paste. Check your apex and for a burr at every level and you're gtg.

Dang it Ankerson....you and Spyderco just cost me a Benjamin! :) Haha. I just picked one of these up. Come on, S110V steel at around $100? How could I not?

If you change your mind, I could use a spare... :D

Sonny, I'm no help bud, I bought mine right here on The Exchange.

As a side note, I cut a ton of bailing twine. Not exactly 5/8 manilla rope, but super strong nylon. I bundled up 8 strands of it last night at the barn. My Manix push cut through all 8 pieces of twine like BUTTER. This steel and the FFG makes it flat cut. I can safely say this stuff is amazing. I know this cutting isn't any test of the steel as much as a testament of how sharp it is, but it's pretty fun to snap cut through 8 strings of nylon bailing twine. :)

Is this going to be a full production run? Or just a sprint?

Kind of wondering if I should order a 2nd one and regrind that one thinner to my liking:thumbup:.

Ankerson I value your super helpful reviews like this, I promptly bought the s110v manix2 even before I read this.
The steel and the price point and the design make perfect sense to guys that spend more....often....
I loved the lightweight manix right away.

I imagine someone has asked before, but I gotta ask, what folding knives do you really enjoy? I know the military is your baseline but what else is on that list? Orrrr is it purely defined by performance?

Okay, you guys. Now, WHERE can I find one that is in Stock?

Every retailer seems to have an estimated one month back order. Been hunting the last week online. Amazon totally out but there were three on eBay. Bought one and there are two left...one currently has about a day left on auction.

Guess they are a little in demand lol.

I enjoy a wide variety of review styles. This one is a fantastic format for somebody like me who is going to check out multiples. The heavy emphasis on edge retention and cutting efficacy is obviously beneficial for people who use their blades (as I do, cutting a lot of cardboard and plastic packaging material at work). The specifics here are the ones most often ignored by guys who "review" by doing overviews right out of the box.
