Cragganmore 12 Year Scotch

What is your opinion of the Crown Royal Black? I've yet to try it.
That was one of my dad's contributions to the 2010 Prairie Dog Safari liquor selection. He went through it very fast. He likes it. I tried it, but didn't care much for it, though if that were the only thing available, I would have enjoyed more of it.

Someone mentioned Buffalo Trace. Good stuff. I also bought a case of their White Dog Mash #1 (125 Proof), and have gone through three bottles thus far, and am working on a fourth. You can see it next to the Crown Royal Black.

Hello all,
Been a lurker here for a while. Funny it took a scotch thread to get me to finally register! Anyway, I wanted to 2nd what Morrowj_98 had to say. Cragganmore makes a good product, but for me it's a bit "weak." I love the Macallan as well, but IMHO the top choice is the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. The first time I brought a bottle up to the counter at my local store, the owner looked at me and said "you found out the secret." I was a bit confused and he went on to say it was the best bottle of scotch to be had for under $500 (retails around $50-$60.) He was right.

Merely for good measure, I picked up one of these this morning.

This seems like the prudent thing to do. I may go grab one myself.

EDIT: Bah....the don't stock it in Pa. I'll have to make a trip to Maryland.

White dog...Ouch. That stuff literally burns my gums!! :D +1 for the Bookers, money willing that would be my go-to bourbon.

While it sucks to be in California for several reasons, access to alcohol and other spirits happens to be a bright spot.

Ken, Cragganmore is pretty good stuff. Definitely one of the easier drinking single malts.

It is a Speyside malt, so it does have less of the peaty/smokey taste, and a lighter/shorter finish than an Oban or other Highland malt.

Enjoy

True. But there is artistry in it, as well. It may be light, but the head distiller managed to emphasize a lot of the heathery/flowery/honey-like 'notes' (tastes and/or aromas). Needs a little dollop of branch water to bring out those flavors ... and, I think, it should be served just a few degrees below room temperature.

It's a good, solid whisky; just not a 'big' whisky.

They have it at the state store beside me... Maybe you are in the wrong part of PA :-)

Good stuff.

Yup, you are right. It is really good, just different than the highland malts.

I usually drink it with just ice or neat, maybe I'll try a little water next time.

I called the closest store to me (Harrisburg) and they do have it. Thanks

I initially looked it up on the website and couldn't find it.

It's worth the effort.

I've had it right out of the cask. It's even better that way!:D

Amen to that! I live in a whiskey cultural wasteland. Granted, there's the Valley...but that is like going to hades this time of year.

Well I went with Knob Creek.
I had three choices this, Maker's Mark and Buffalo Trace.
It was the middle of the price scale which was a minor factor in case I didn't like it.
yeah right!!!! A Busse fan not like fine booze!!! Hahaha!!
My thoughts?
Very nice. I poured it over ice, though the first sip is always neat.
The second sip I gave a good "Kentucky chew" and it is a nice taste.
I have no others to compare it to but I like it and will continue buying different kinds.
I'm sure I will find "my" bourbon some where down the road.

Try it straight next time. I drink my bourbon only this way, and at room temperature.

It is definitely a good dram. While i tend towards Islay, (though i suppose i am probably in the minority as I much prefer Single Malt Scotch to anything else) i also love some of the Speyside offerings.

On your mark Lunde.
My first glass is almost finished.
I'll pour the second shortly, neat.
Be back to let you know (not like I stray far).

Oh, and here's a quickie snapshot of the "thing" that I picked up this morning:

Another piece of good news is that my bottle of Rebel Yell is almost gone:
