For cheap folder, look at the Dozier folders, not the phat bob ( thoughthats an awesome knife) but the ones with Zytel handles. Great folder for $18 on Tomar's and they come in cool colors. In terms of a fixed blade, I'd say 14. How many bottles you plan to open when you're 17? Lol ok bad question, I work in a high school, I should know better lol.

I was planning to use the bottle opener as a pry bar, like for metal, just to give it a non-threatening appearance. As far as opening bottles goes, well if this summer is ANYTHING like last summer, I opened at least 6 last summer, and since I'll be getting paid more this summer, I sure hope it will be more! Gotta love cream soda!

I voted Save your money. You're young, and already have a good collection going. You never know what else you may need some cash for.
Looks like you have some great Beckers already - I'd see about carrying one of the smaller ones at camp.
For me, EDC really means Folder. But not the $8 Mall Ninja type.
If you don't already have something serviceable, look for one of the affordable Kershaws, or possible a KaBar Dozier. But that wasn't one of the choices. Try it first - feel, action, and deployment can vary widely between knives in the lower price ranges.
Good luck!

By the time you add shipping (and feed your brother), $42 won't buy you and 11.

Save up for something. It will taste sweeter when it finally happens.

[Yeah, I know. I prolly wouldn't have when I was your age either...]

Well, the doziers are nice knives, but I don't buy a folder that costs more than $10 without being able to handle it a little bit ahead of time, just because $20 is an investment for me and folders come in so many different varieties that you can't tell from one color to the other if they will feel the same (yes I said that the way I meant to say it). I'll probably pick up a dozier and hold off on the 11 if I can find a local place that sells them, otherwise the poll rules, poll ends when this thread dies.

find a local coin store and buy one silver american eagle or silver dollar and put away. you should have one for every knife you have. eventually you will have a good stack of real money saved up. it will be your hedge against future inflation and the devaluation of paper money.

Btw.

You don't know what YOU'RE doing.

lol, just razzin ya Mr. OCD grammar police lol.

Ox, Logically how often will you use your knife? If you are pulling it out every 5 seconds then I think you should invest in an EDC but if you only use it a few times save your money and wait till some place goes on sale or something. One thing I'm always kicking myself over is how much I paid for tools and crap I dont really use.

A bit off topic in the Becker forum, but I like to pick up a Mora when I'm light in the wallet and wanting a new knife. They are super inexpensive and you can mod them too. It's not one of your poll choices, but I had to throw it out there.

Let me go edit the poll, gonna add Mora and some other options that were mentioned.

And haze, I'm over that Grammar OCD binge. Until I go read facebook again anyhow.

Edit: I can't edit the poll I guess, but some people did vote for the $8 Mall Ninja POS, weirdly. That was just up there as a third option, and I wanted to see if anyone would actually vote for that.

SAK Farmer. Sub $30. The knife will last you a lifetime. Fit and finish is always perfect out of the box. The knife will literally make you a hero on a weekly basis. You will never regret buying that knife. As a stranger, speaking to you over the internet, trust me on this.

This is the only reason I even remotely questioned the people that told me to start with an 11/14 instead of 2. Sorry about that Ethan.

I've got several pages on Moras and SAKs open, so I am actually considering them.

If you changed the poll now anyways it would devalue the poll because some people would have already used up their vote before there were other options available to vote for, ones they possibly would have changed their vote to.

Good luck on your choice.

There was an option when I created it to allow people to change their votes, which I was going to enable if I was able to change it.

Hopefully everyone would have bothered to go back and revote. Either way at the end of the day it's just a poll, do whatever you think is right for you.

I can't EDC a fixed blade where I live, nor do I think I would want to. If I did/could, or if your poll was looking for a small hiker, backup knife, survival, bushcrafter, neck knife or even a first Becker, the 11 would be high on my list of choices. I recommend the SAK not so much to deter you from giving KA-BAR and Becker more money, but to try and deter you from going with an $8 POS and recommend one of my favorite, and truly useful folders that won't break the bank.

Hey oxide, you seem like a nice enough guy. If you want I'll send you my 14 to play with for a few weeks. If you promise to actually send it back and you don't abuse it beyond what some sharpening can fix. Play with it for a while and maybe it will help you decide. It's convexed and has my scales I made on it. Think about it and let me know.

Make sure you don't need parental consent first :D Really though...
