Kind of a random thought but if you don't have to get it local maybe pick up a Svord Peasant folder. It is my understanding that it is really pretty sturdy and lends itself to plenty of customizations kind of like beckers. Since it is a friction folder it doesn't really have a lock to fail, its cheep, decent steel, nothing to break on it. I bet you could do some light bush crafting with it. Just an idea, not sure if any one else here has had any experience with them. Maybe it can hold you over until you can get what you really want.

It doesent have a back spacer so the stupid thing keeps closing up and its pretty annoying. I got one (Svord are right next door yet they're 40 bucks here? Hmm...) and because of the back spacer tried to make a new set of scales for it...Failed at that so now its a small fixed blade.

I can't see myself spending more than $20 for a folder because of the restricted usage, but I think at this point, I'm just gonna save my money for an 11 (after summer starts) and the 511 pack that I want (MOAB 10 for those of you that haven't seen me asking around), and a Ka-Bar folder, even if they are made overseas with a metal lesser than 1095CV.

If that's where you're at, I would definitely be looking into fixed blade EDC's. There's not much I would carry that's under 60, TBH. Spyderco Tenacious, HK Monochrome, to name a few cheaper than that which I feel are good starter folders. But seriously, once you get into folders that are around 100-300 dollars, you really start to understand why you spent that much money. The only folders I don't really regret buying are the more expensive ones, oddly enough. Of course, since you're still young, you're really going to want to research, find some stores where you can handle the nice blades if you can, and pick carefully.

That being said, the Phat Bob is a pretty darn good little slicer.

There is ONE folder that might convince me over my person $20 limit, but it is a BSA folder, so unless you stopped in your local BSA National Store (the one next to your council office, normally), you probably won't know what knife I'm talking about.

Anyhow, description: folder, under 3" blade (very stout, wider than most, if not all, other BSA folders), really beefy burlwood handles (actually, the name on the barcode thing might say Burlwood knife or somesuch thing), Bechtel Scout Reservation (the Summit, West VA national High adventure) laser markings on the blade, stainless mystery metal (of course), lockback locking mechanism.

What I'm trying to do is figure out who made that knife as a regular production model, that would fit my price range, and assuming the Heat Treat is any good, should cover all my EDC bases. I won't get the one in the Scout shop because I will not pay extra for BSA laser markings.

i just got the 11 and i really love this thing, in all honesty though i should have gone for the 14 due to its slightly larger handle....but hey the 11 opens beers and i figure you cant go wrong with that!

Hey, oXide. I have a brand-new Dozier you could have, if you're interested. Send me a PM if you are.

Thanks for the generous offer, but I can't take something I haven't A) paid for, or B) won in a contest. Well, there is an exception, empty snus/altoids, but those are going to end up in the trash if someone doesn't save them.

Thanks anyhow.

So what do you do at birthdays? Ask mom and dad to set up an obstacle course with your presents at the end?
