Don,

Let me be the first so congratulate you on that one. It's truly a work of art.

I like it the most...can I have it :) That's a great looking knife.

three THOUSAND layers? yipe!!!!!! how many did you start off with? Was it a 14 inch thick billet? lol. How does that W2/wrought mixture cut?

Joe, I started with 5 layers, 3 - 1'' thick W2 and 2 - 1/4'' thick iron, so I figure 85% W2 and 15% iron. I did this to effect the hamon instead of a high contrast pattern, at this layer count it has complete carbon migration at around .85 carbon, it cuts great. I weld the billet, then draw it out to around 30'' and cut into 5 or 6 pieces and restack, about 6 welding heats, lot of layers with fewer welding heats this way.

hey man thats hamons great and all but the guard is absoultly sick! could you post a up close pic of that as well? it def deserves a bit of the spot light.

Just awesome as usual Don. Makes me think about starting to make model airplanes instead of knives. I always love your blades but, this one just has that extra touch. Very cool.
