CRK press release on S30V!!!

rdangerer, thanks for the information and links.

Still wish that CRK would add a bit more to the press release especially since they did test S30V. Big D1

Its a new steel and its in a Chris Reeve knife. It costs the same and gives an improved performance across the board.

Why are we complaining?:p

Another excuse to start saving up!

The politics are irrelevent, I buy a knife, I won't worry about profitability or costs. Thats the Reeves business and not mine. As long as the product performs, I will buy.;)

Wayne:
My thoughts exactly! Chris wouldn't be changing the steels if he didn't think that it would be an improvement. He's been refining the Sebbie since day one. He's always looking for ways to make it better. And it's a great excuse to get another knife! How's your damascus woodie holding out? Mine is doing great, it doesn't take all that much extra work to keep it rust free.

My Woodie is holding up very well! Appart from a little accident where a coin nicked the edge a little bit, no probs at all. I have not had any rust problems at all with the blade, but then I rub the grease in from time to time and use MSTC every day!

Have a good one!

But. . .if the BG-42 blade is swapped with a S30V ~ do you get to also keep the BG-42 blade ?

Any answer to the above question yet? Furthermore, why couldn't they just sell you the blade, ship it to you, and let you install it yourself? If they'll let you strip it for cleaning, this shouldn't be any different.

Frank

The reason they need the knife and do not just ship a blade is that the blades are actually fitted by hand to the knife. They do not just "toss one on". I really do believe you end up with two blades though I will try to call and find out for sure....

Thanks, Paul.

I can't really see why they wouldn't send you back the bg-42 blade- what would they do with it? After all, you did pay for it, and they're not giving you the s30v blade for an even exchange, so... However, does this mean that I couldn't swap blades between knives- a flat ground blade in a decorated handle, for instance? Would there be excess blade play, or something equally undesirable?

Frank

If you choose to have an S30V blade fitted to an existing knife, you do need to send your whole knife in for the new blade to be fitted. Even thought our parts are machined to very close tolerances, it is the hand fitting of the lock and the pivot area that ensures the "bank vault" feel for which Sebenzas are known. You would receive the BG42 blade back - as mentioned above, you have already paid for it!

Anne

Frank- you should not swap blades unless they are fitted to the frame. However if you have a regular decorated large sebenza you could "swap" face's for the same effect- only the lockbar side and blade are fitted. This can only be done between same style (regular or classic) and the same sizes....

Hi, folks.

Well, thanks for the fast replies, and the info on the blades- I'll make certain to only swap the front handle, if I want a change.
