New to CRK... working on a commissioned piece and thought I'd post some WIP pictures. This is a set of stabilized English walnut handles going on with threaded fasteners. I'll put up the details as I go. First, the design sketch and then some rough handles shaped and fasteners placed.

You might want to make some extras. Some of us would buy a set of PS handles from you. :)

Looking forward to seeing your results on this.

Some more WIP pictures. After getting the slabs the right thickness and dead flat on the back side, I machine the holes to let the screw heads be slightly countersunk. I use the pivot/threaded sleeve bolt as a centering jig...

The handles have been contoured. I trace out the pattern and make the "facets" or "bevels" in the rough contour and just keep sanding away the part that shouldn't be there...

Then the grips are sanded to the final shape so that the crown of the radiused tang is outside the edge of the grip. The grip is right to the "break" of the radius to the flat, all around, except the butt which is flat on the tang...

I'll move on to finish sanding and apply the tru oil next.

If you are interested in all this and have questions, I'm happy to answer or take more photos.

I hope so - I have had this knife waaay too long. I hope he doesn't get upset with me.

Quickness is quickly forgotten... just remember you can only pick 2:
Fast
Good
Cheap

Keep up the good work!

Here's one of how I did the fasteners. These are 0.25" diameter, 8-32 threaded pivot barrels with button head screws from each side. I have about 0.010" of squeeze on the grip panels - just enough to provide the hold without compressing them. The front fastener came out in a good spot. If I wanted it any further forward, I'd have to put a small flat on the fastener to let it run into the tapered hole in the tang. I liked what it looked like as-is so I left it.

And here they are with the first coat of oil on them.

Well I do love ironwood

For the record. I've been edc'in my PS for almost 4 years. Been waiting for someone to do some scales for this knife. You are doing a great job here.

My pleasure. Been interesting watching this progress. Of all the things I am, a knife/scale maker, I am not.

Outstanding...the hardware placement couldn't be better. The thin profile of the handles really flows with the small, thin knife.

I couldn't be happier with the way this is turning out. Thanks again for taking this project on.

The gray from the blade and the brown from the wood you chose look really good together. Well done!

Based on my membership level I can't solicit work openly. ...but my PM inbox has plenty of room for messages.

I'll be posting more here when I get the kydex reshaped. Stay tuned...
