CRKT at Lowe's

I have never owned a CRKT knife before so when I happened upon some at Lowe's I had to try one. I picked up a M21-12G for 19.95. I have been using it for 2 weeks and have been pleasently surprised for a 20 buck edc. The serrations suck though. They make the blade so thin that I chipped the hell out of them just opening calk tubes. I went back to get more stuff and the had a ripple this time for 20. I have been using the mess out of them just to see if they are any good... and so far the have been. I actually have not carried my benchmade knife in 2 weeks and have not missed it. I am really wondering how Lowe's is selling these for 20 bucks. Maybe they are seconds, or a promo? I just thought someone might like to know. :D

Hi Jamboi - Just want to confirm these are not seconds or promo knives. They are legitimate CRKT knives and tools. Thanks

I saw a post by CRKT on Facebook recently announcing their products now being carried by Lowe's. The prices they have right now may be specials just to get the name out there for Lowe's. I need to stop in and check pricing, as they don't even list CRKT on their website yet.

Call it the economics of scale. A quick net search turned up there were 1750 stores at the end of November 2012. Staying with that number, say that Lowe's bought ten knives of a model for each store (actually, probably much more than that, but for our example...) to sell.

That would mean a minimum of 17,500 knives on one order. A fella could do some real dealing with that kind of volume. Then think... what if their package box from CRKT was a dozen per order, then do the math on that order! Over 20,000 knives of one model on one order...!!!

Sometimes companies sell affordable examples of their products in venues like Lowes or HD simply to get their name out there. My guess in this instance is that Lowe's probably bought a ton of knives and CRKT wanted some store presence. If that is true, they will be gone by the end of the year as it was when they carried several models of CASE knives. I still see the Sodbuster, Jr., but different models only from time to time.

I just bought a ripple this weekend for $20 from lowes. The value is a bit mind blowing.
I would not want to use this knife as an example to a non knife person as to what a cheap knife feels like.

Jboone, do you know which model # ripple lowes is carrying? I've been looking to pick one up, so this may be a great chance to.

Black handle, no serrations. I can look for markings when I get home if need be. Aluminum handles. Again, crazy that $20 can buy thisone.

Im going to head there tomorrow under guise of buying garden supplies. If a ripple decides to follow me home, it will be out of my control!

My local Lowe's had a few. A regular size Pazoda and Guppies for $20, Ripples for $30, and a few others more expensive that I didn't even care to look at once I saw the prices. I can find cheaper on the Bay.

Mine doesn't have them yet. Just the ss sodbuster, some sogs, and multitools. They do have a bit sharpener that comes with a crkt though.

I noticed for some reason all of their knife sharpening stuff is about $10 more than anywhere else.

I absolutely love the ripple. It was only my second flipper style knife. This thing is so smooth when it opens. I just sat for 15 minutes flipping it open and closed one night. Just a light press with your finger and it snaps open and locks up. Plus it is a very nice looking nife. Looks good in a pair of slacks.

We must have crappy Lowe's, Home Depot's and Walmart's in NJ, because all they stock in my local stores are junk knives like "Sheffield" brand.

It may just take them longer. We have 2 lowes and one got them at least 3 weeks before the other one. They were also in different parts of the store to begin with. Now they are on a wing panel in the tool section. Ours carries SOG, CRKT, Camillius, and Sheffield. I am hoping the get a m21 or equilivent size knife with a tanto blade and no serrations. Not hig on the veff serrations.

I was really disappointed in my local lowes. In their knife section, all the CRKT products had these silly anti-theft protection on them which made reading the packaging near impossible. Plus the selection was poor. The had the Drifter for $20, Kasper Crawford for $30, and the Minimilist. Had there been a ripple, I probably would have bought it right there.

They cost $20 retail because they bought them at ~ $7-14 each. Lowes has 1,750 stores worldwide and if they bought 100 CRKT knives per store, that'd be 175K knives sold in one order for CRKT. I think CRKT would be willing to discuss volume discounts.

WOW! That almost sounds familiar.... like at about post #4 above....

Anyway, went to one of the local Lowe's and they showed me their display of CRKT products. They were as reported above, and all marked at the common retail prices. No deals there.

You are right, except I didn't use "economics of scale"! ;)
