Just received the 04 and the 12. What a fantastic bargain these knives seem to be. Just couldn't be happier

I have the 04 and 03. If these knives don't take some heavy "Knife of The Year" honors, there's no justice.

Boy, you got that right Ala....the M16 was the reason I went out and bought one of Kit's custom Model 4's. Now I have all the M16's, one of his customs and I am waiting (im)patiently for the Magna. These knives are a lot of fun!

I just got the M16-03 in plain edge, and I have to say that it is a great knife. I think that I got a steal at $40. It's grind lines were a bit off, but what the heck, for a user, I think that it is great, Fits in my hands. My only complaint, is the the pocket clip is placed too low on the handle, causing too much of the knife to stick out of my pocket. I think that I am going to drill and tap new holes for tip up carry. I would love one with a flipper on it.

CRKT produces excellent quality knives at reasonable prices, treat their dealers well and honor the folks who's designs they produce by crediting them with the work, reimbursing them for their contribution and treating them as professionals.

My M-16 midsize was such a good knife that I reluctantly let a buddy headed to Kosovo borrow it from me. I consider the Mirage to be a great casual dress knife as well as a sturdy worker. I've had several people buy seveal KISSs out of my pocket.

The fixed blade CRKTs never excited me, but a fellow I know that works the Tactical Response Team for a DOE weapons plant has had one for 3 years and hasn't broken it yet.

I hope that helps,

Mike

Good, solid knife (M16-13). One complaint: the thumb studs for opening are too hard to get to, and it is difficult to open mine one-handed. For the price, probablt should.t complain, but if my life depended on quick one haned opening..... well?

I noticed that it was a bit hard to use the stud to open the M16-03 and 02 also. I had to adjust the tension on the pivot. This made it easier to open,I can also flick it open. Althought the 04 is alot easier to flip open even with out using the flipper.

I have just recieved a trio of the CRK&T M-16's 2 04's and a 13. To say that I'm impressed would be and understatment. The only problem I have had is one 04 started to rust. I have a feeling that it was my fault. The knife is simple to take apart so I just removed the blade and removed the beadblast from it. No rust problems since. My dad liked the 04 so much that I gave him the second one and he is always flipping it out. I would like thank Kit Carson for letting this happen. With out this exposure I would not have ordered one of his customs. I can't wait for th smaller flippers. Well I think it is the best money that I have spent in a long time.

Can someone please explain the difference between the M16-02 and M16-12, M16-03 and M16-13, and M16-04 and M16-14.

Just got in my second batch the other day. checked all of them and am still amazed at how consistant they are. I have had 13 now and they all lock up in the same spot. All but one had the same tension on the blade. One was already perfect since it was a bit looser. I tell everyone if they want it to open better loosen the pivot pin screw just a bit. Actually you do not have to use your thumb or even your wrist to get them to fly open as several co-workers have proved to me. I have to flick my wrist slightly to get it opened and locked every time. Guess the others have stronger index fingers hahaha. The new past time at work is practicing opening the knives since they are so fun to open. We do that whenever we have an easy job and are bored. It's quite a sight when three of us are doing this as a group and the management walk over hahahaha.

Tom Carey

Hello Slashandburn and all,

The difference between the 03 and 13 is the 03 is a spearpoint and the 13 is a tanto. I am preaching to the choir when I say this so I am going to keep it very brief; I have handled and sold 5 M-16's recently, all of them exhibiting the same excellent quality build. My favorite for all around utility/work/defense is the 03. For a serious tactical response type knife the 14 is a piece of steel I wouldn't want to face. I consider these knives to be a masterpiece of design, construction, and price. For the price there is nothing that comes close. I have also handled the zytel handled Mirage and was totally flabbergasted at the quality and all around attractiveness of the entire package. It looked like a knife worth five times more. Needless to say I got on the horn and ordered a bunch of Grey Ghost's, which I am waiting delivery on. I have carried a KISS since the day they came out, and I too have had a number of them purchased out of my pocket. The one I have refused to sell and use as a money clip is still as excellent as the day I bought it with only normal signs of finish wear. My question and I think everyone's question to the other makers in this country is, if CRKT can do what they are doing for the price they are doing it, why can't everyone else too. I realize CRKT is having the builds done in Taiwan to cut labor costs. If the Chinese don't rocket hell out of Taiwan soon, I hope to see more great work out of CRKT in the future. They are the only knives I dare send to my collector friends who normally spend $1500 on a knife. In turn my collector friends all thank me as they didn't have a single knife they can actually use till the M-16's came along. The CRKT's fill that void. Also thanks Kit Carson.

I listened to the advice from all on this thread and now I like my M-16-14 as much as the 03. It took me a couple tries, putting pressure on the top of the blade and then releasing it while I used my index finger to work the lever, and bingo, a manual auto knife without snapping the wrist! It is even easier to use the lever and snap your wrist to open the 14. Cool, very cool.

I just got the knife a few minutes ago and what can I say, I just love it! I am a big A.F.C.K. fan but now I am finding this CRKT to be the new love of my life. Fit and finish is great and it's SCARY sharp.

My M16-14 came last night. My wife says "Just what you need, another knife!" But what can I say. No hackneyed phrases here. Just praise for one kick ass knife. Well worth the money. Took the advice of one poster and loosened the pivot. Awesome.
If (when) the other sizes get the flipper, I'm sure I'll purchase them. Thanks to all that posted your reviews.

I have to admit that the M16-04 has to be the best knife buy of the year. The "Carson Flipper"/guard and other features on this knife make it one helluva blade for the money. It has many positive features that you have to experiance to appreciate. Give one a try and you probably won't be disappointed.
