CRKT Ken Onion Eros

Wow what a great review and what a great site! This is my first post here and I couldn't think of a better thread to get me started as I just bought an Eros and another (this will be my second) Leek. I got a great deal on both of them and the Leek is in the green/smoke color to match my uniform. :D

Mr. Onion, my hat is off to you sir. I absolutely love the design of both these knives. The blade profiles are what attracted me to them in the first place. I'm a LEO and usually carry at least two knives on me anyway; so I will use the Leek/Eros for fine cutting chores and anything requiring heavy use or perhaps any type of prying will go to one of my other EDC tactical folders, such as my BM Auto Stryker or one of any other of a dozen or so I might choose to carry on any given day.

I just cannot express how much I absolutely love these knives. I am surprised by the opinions expressed by a couple of the posters pertaining to the clip. I actually like the clip on the Eros. The whole knife and the intricate patterns on the scales sort of remind me of something the elves would have made on one of those Lord Of the Rings movies. :)

Great job, to both of you. Great review and a great knife.

Please keep up the good work . . .

What a great thread and I love the photos, esp side by sides.

I bought a Leek back in the fall and an Eros about a month ago and love them both, esp the latter. Of course they feel different in the hand. The former weighs 87g and the latter 43g, less than half.

I love them both, but if I had to choose, it would be the Eros. A perfect gentleman's pocket knife, IMHO.

Found this review with a last post from a year ago.
Figured they must be in stock everywhere now.
WRONG!

Great review.
As I said in the other review, comparing the Ripple, I really appreciate the pocket pics.

There is sometimes a risk in buying a knife without being able to hold it.
Thanks to BF and Youtube, I thought this would fit the bill for what I've been looking for.
It is near perfect in term of what I hoped it would be.

Only thing is that it is SO LIGHT and just the right size, I have to keep checking my pocket to make sure I did not lose it.
Sometimes the shock cord on some of my jackets will snag and lift on pocket EDCs. Gonna have to keep an eye on that with this one.

my first post...

thanks to UnknownVT for this thread and to everybody for their comments on the eros, also knives in general - i feel i learned a lot in just a few days.

based on this discussion, which is how i found this forum in the first place i purchased an eros and eros2.

i really didn't know that i would enjoy reading and learning and looking at fine knives so much.

i will post my comments when they arrive.

again, thanks,
smokey

Haven't played with the Eros, but I picked up the ripple. For a relatively inexpensive knife it's great. Good lock up, no blade play, and it flips like a dream. I could never afford a Ken Onion custom, but at least the CRKT lets me have a knife with his design work.

Yes, it looks a very decent, modern and functional gents' knife. Nice pocket-carry I'll be bound.

Great looking knife, however, the clip looks strange to me and detracts from the package. I think a single piece clip would compliment the overall looks. I do love the knife looks, light weight and blade shape.

This is my next knife purchase!
Ken, I think a "wharnie" is a great idea, but I like them. I know many that don't.
I'd like to see a pic of your custom carry Doctor Onion.
Keep up the stellar work, Kevin

I got one of these a few weeks ago. It is an excellent little package. It's really a shiv disguised as a gentleman's knife :) Well worth the $125. The IKBS is a great toy, but the knife is a real tool not a toy. The pocket clip, although small and visibily unsubstantial, is very good at keeping the knife safe. The fit and finish is near perfect. It would be "sebenza perfect", except for the grind is a little wide to meet the sebenza level. Not a bad grind, just not perfect. However the screws, handle, blade finish, blade centering, etc. are all "sebenza perfect." I bought mine at a B&M store and compared two, both were good.

My only complaint is the pivot occasionaly gets loose (in a week of constant, and I mean constant, use) and needs tightening. Per the instructions with the knife, some tightening of all screws is considered routine maintenance. I might try a little loc-tite, but you can tell when it starts to loosen because the blade moves slightly off center.

Interesting -
LocTite is probably the way to go.

FWIW - over the 2+years of regular usage I've not had to tighten the pivot screw on my Eros.

On the IKBS knives I had disassembled the CRKT Ikoma Sampa (link to review) had blue thread locker on the pivot screw.

Great helpful review!

I fell in love with the Eros 2, but too late unfortunately - as it is listed as discontinued at crkt website and everywhere I look for it there are none left in stock. I need a small EDC folder (max. 5.5in open - which is legal in my country). The Ripple 2 would be another option, but since I saw the full titanium handle in Eros I can't get it out of my mind. Can anyone point me where to buy the Eros 2 online (international shipping would be great)?

Thank you.
