CRKT Point Guard

I decided to get the large plain edge PG. It should be here via UPS in a couple of days. I can't wait to wring it out and see what all of you folks have told me about. Thanks for all of the great input. If my Carson M16-04 is an indicator, I should have a great knife on the way.

Got my large, serrated Point Guard in the mail on Saturday. The first thing my wife said was, "It looks like something you already have". I didn't even bother with a response, well maybe a grunt or two, but I just proceeded to play all day with it. By bed time she asked to see it and commented how nice it felt in her hand and how smooth the action was. So there you have it folks. I'm very pleased with the quality and affordability of this knife. It is definitely a keeper.

Awwww, ... man! Now look at what youse guys have done! If you'd just gone ahead and said the PG was ho-hum, it would have saved me bucks. But NOOOOOOO! You had to explain in vivid detail how great it is!

<Sigh!> Here we go again!

Sorry Champion, I guess the whole mess is my fault for starting the ball rolling, but guess what? I just received my large, plain edge Point Guard from UPS today. Everything that these fine folks said about it is true true true. Upon first fondling, the action was as smooth as a virgins thigh. With that duely noted I had to go and do the normal recondoc thing. I took out my torx tools and pulled the sucker apart.(NOTE- this is not for the budget minded weak at heart as the entire time I was thinking "please GOD don't let me screw up my new knife") What got my attention was the workmanship. The finish was even with no machining marks visible, even in the places that you can't see without taking it apart. All parts fit together extremely well with no notable tolerances for wiggle. Upon reassembling it, I went on to test the lock with and without the LAWKS system. (Please refer to prior note and prayer) I wrapped the handle in a piece of scrap leather and clamped the PG into the good old bench vise. I then wrapped the blade and proceded to give her several stout whacks with a 16oz ball pean hammer. (I test what few products I buy as if my life depends on them, because that may very well be the case.) I never got around to having to test the LAWKS system because the PG held up with just the liner lock.(I really don't like to beat on a knife any more than is necessary to trust it.) My final evaluation for today was just completed. The father in law bought some rather large steaks and grilled them up. With PG in pocket I set forth to assist him in their demise. The factory edge sliced with the precision of a surgical scalpel.(Something that I am quite familiar with) That big steak and the cigar and port to follow were no match for the PG and me. (OK so maybe the steak test is a bit on the light scale, but with the cigar and wine it is definitely the most fun).
I will give an update on this thing next week as I will be taking it with me to the field over the weekend.

Uh, don´t wanna spoil the fun, but y´all test your CRKTs with the spine-whack. My large KFF (the most ergonomic production folder I have, GREAT feeling) regularily fails the spine-whack test without the LAWKS engaged

I have two pointguards in plain and ser. edges theyre good knives for the price, but the only complaint i have is the side of the lawk that touches the inside of the handle (when deployed) has a 16th of play and it rests against the scale (the liner dosent cover that area.the lawk is a great idea, but i wouldnt put my life on it!!

recondoc - You couldn't leave well enough alone, could you? Why not just say that you got the knife and it was OK. Or even, "Great knife." But, NOOOOOOO! (again). You had to go into more detail and even about how you opened up the thing and all about it's great guts and innerds! You KNOW that forces me to get BOTH the big and the little ones, don't you? Looks like it's back to eating popcorn three times a day!

(Sigh!) Here we go again (again)!

I've got a Pointguard in excellent condition. If you are serious about your financial need, email me, I'll send you the knife. You can pay me back when you can afford to, or you can pay me back by helping out someone else in need (when you are in a position to.)
Take care and be safe,
Chad
