CRKT Provoke Ripping up my Pocket

The Chinese clones do come with a very nice multi-position kydex sheath thats easy to draw from, and with some practice you can get it out and open in one quick movement. The clones also have countersunk tapered screws on the pocket clip....no snagging, no tearing up the pockets. The knife can be withdrawn quickly and if done right the knurling acts like a wave feature and the knife opens as it comes out.
One other thing I just noticed looking at the pictures here....The entire clip on the CRKT knife sits in a small well area, leaving all the edges exposed. The clip on the clone is entirely flush with the ring all around.

I'm dead set against Chinese counterfeits. Yet this version is better than the legal production model. I feel sick

Didn't want to be the one to say it but yeah......it would seem so, even though its not technically a counterfeit in that it is obviously different and in no way claims to be a CRKT or anything else but what it is. Clone is more like it.
The fact that CRKT is selling a similar knife made in the same place and for all I know by the same people for $200 and then says its going to charge extra for a sheath tells me all I need to know....

Turns out the very first production run of Provokes had a sharp spot on the aluminum body under the clip that could snag. Just take the clip off and round the edge or simply send it back to CRKT and they will fix it.

After reading your message, I called CRKT's customer service. They said that the new sheath should be available in roughly two weeks and that they will not be included with new Provoke knives but instead will be available as an additional purchase. If it turns out I'm wrong, then it turns out that the customer service rep. gave me bad info.

Look at what I just found on CRKT's website for $34.99!

A sheath for the Provoke as promised which you can find/order here. It also comes w/a "gear compatible clip set."

Just ordered mine! :)

Total cost to me was $46.87 (including tax & shipping). Not cheap but gotta have it.

Terrific! Thanks for the public service announcement! I will be ordering mine shortly. Bonus: Hopefully a sheath turns a "concealed knife" into a non-concealed knife, legally speaking, as long as the sheath is visible to others.

LOL...
Belt clip is slightly different, but that is the exact same sheath as the one that came with mine.....3 months ago.....before the CRKT knife was available....I wonder how long it took CRKT to clone the cloners?
All things considered $47 seems real steep when you can get a better version of this knife and the sheath for under $80....
The profit margin must be huge on these.....

I'll bite. How is the clone better?

Didn't you read the thread?
It doesn't have sharp edges and protruding screws that tear up your pocket.
Its the same knife but with all steel construction, not aluminum.
The clip sits flush in the handle, not exposed.
Comes with a nice kydex belt sheath at no extra cost.
Most importantly, its nowhere near as expensive. The Provoke is what, $200, plus another $47 for that sheath. This is not a $250 knife by any stretch of the imagination......

I was really tempted to buy one of the clones just for the sheath but I resisted because I wasn't sure it would fit.

I'm glad I waited. I only paid $100 for my Provoke, so at $147 w/the sheath I'm still ahead of the game.

I also bought a couple of ballistic nylon knife/tool holders for just $7@ that I can also use to carry the Provoke (or other tools/knives instead). It's always good to have options IMO.

I'm not a big fan of clones because I generally believe that makers should get what they deserve; intellectual property means something. That being said, since (a) I already bought the Provoke (so CRKT made its profit), (b) the sheath costs a lot (with shipping factored in), and (c) you can get a whole additional knife plus the sheath for a little more money...

Just received a notice from CRKT that the sheath shipped today. Should receive it in a couple of days; OR to CA. Will post some pics of it when it arrives.

Maybe they did....
The fact that there are clones being made is no secret. CRKT made the decision to have a major source of cloned designs produce this knife in order to maximize profits. When you know the foxes are stealing eggs from the hen house, you don't hire them to guard the chickens. In this case they not only stole the eggs but opened a roadside stand and are selling them below cost...
These clones were on the market for quite a while before the CRKT version was. That should tell you all you need to know about who got what they deserve.....

What makes you think they are selling them below cost? (Why would they do that?)

You don't think the pics on their website do it justice, eh? ;-) ;-)

You know what, I was SO excited about just seeing the listing that I didn't even notice there was more than one pic of the sheath. I just "found" the other pics on their site of the clips and the knife in the sheath too.

Dumb, LOL!

And, FWIW, after seeing that they are offering 2 types of clip attachments, the sheath doesn't seem THAT expensive after all.

Anyway, I think that people might like to see pics of the knife w/the sheath in the wild too. So, I'll post a couple anyway. ;)

Received the Provoke sheath today.

It is very well made. It looks better than what I've seen of the sheath that comes w/the Chinese knockoff and I assume the Provoke is better than the Chinese knockoff of the knife too. ;)

In any event the CRKT sheath comes w/2 DOT clips: 1) thin 3 hole and 2) the standard wide 9 hole.

I tried using the thin clip vertically 1st but it was not thick enough to keep the sheath vertical; it would lean over at an angle whenever I removed the knife from the sheath. So, that failed. It is also impossible to install the sheath horizontally w/the thin clip; not enough mounting holes available. Bottom line, the thin clip is pretty useless and it been better if left it out and reduced the price of the sheath to $30 instead.

Next, I tried installing the sheath horizontally using the wide clip but the sheath/knife stuck out too far from my body and would slide along the belt until it hit a loop before I could remove the knife. So, that configuration failed for me too.

Lastly, I installed the sheath vertically using the wide sheath in the standard configuration and that worked best for me. I could push the sheath back along my body so that then knife/sheath is less noticeable but still accessible. However, I could also slide it forward along the belt for easier access. The sheath holds the knife very securely and the only way you can remove the knife from the sheath w/o it moving side-to-side along your belt is to mount it vertically.

So, I think this is the best method of attachment and the only pics I took of the sheath were in this configuration. It's a very nice set up and, even though I could just carry the Provoke in my pocket, my preferred method of carrying it will be in the sheath.

I'm glad that I bought it. :)

And, finally, here's a pic of the knife/sheath along w/all of the other gear that I normally carry in my urban self-defense kit. It fits right in. LOL! ;)

The Chinese sheath looks very much the same as the CRKT....nearly identical in fact...

I've been carrying mine on the left horizontally. It doesn't seem to stick out much, and the knife can be extracted quickly and easily without the sheath moving. Try attaching the sheath using the two upper most holes mounted to the two lower most holes on the wide clip (the two nearest the hinge). See the pictures earlier in this thread....
Clip it to the belt above your left pocket with the lock tab on top so the sheath is positioned slightly upward. You should be able to draw with your fore finger and at the same time flip it open with the first knuckle of your middle finger.
