CRKT Provoke X Axe

I was reading article about this and the dude that designed it made dozens of prototypes before landing on...this.

I can't imagine who this is for. It would suck in the woods. You really don't need a hawk to be compact for tactical applications. Either you need a chopping tool or you don't. If you do, lash it to your pack and deal with it. I dunno...

CRKT is making some in-roads with some nicer quality stuff compared to what they were known for, but I don't think they are at the point where they can crank out a goofy folding hawk for that price and expect anyone with money and knowledge to bite.

Considering there is a huge market for pocket prys, hanks, coins, knucks, and other randomness, this is going to sell and sell well I predict. 90% of people deep in the knife hobby buy knives for instagram photos, not to actually use so a pocket hatchet could be right up their alley. Also, think of how many people buy "bushcraft" knives and have big fixed blades for when they camp at the improved campground at the state park and do the 2 miles hiking trail there. A useless pocket hatchet could seem like a great idea for that 😅

I know that seems sarcastic but even though it seems stupid to me and alot of yall, people in this hobby will absolutely buy this. Just look at how much hype it got already.

It’s definitely a cool piece suited towards self defense if anything. But I have one concern, it seems the axe blade is pointed towards the fingers. I’d imagine in a high stress situation, a frantic death grip not placed carefully could lead to some “accidents”.

It’s cool, but not $350 cool.

I think the mechanism is interesting from an engineering standpoint but ultimately this is just as absurdly overcomplicated and overpriced as the Klecker Claxe but dialed up to 11 when the reality is that small slip-fit tomahawks and axes exist and work better for less money while still being able to be broken down.
