I wouldn't pick any of those... I would go for a Fallkniven S1 or a BRKT Bravo.

Kind regards,

Jos

+1 for either of those knives. You should also look into a RAT cutlery fixed blade (possibly the rc-4 or rc-6). They make fantastic knives.

Yes, I would go for RAT Cutlery as well, but between those two.. the Rant is a lot better than the crkt.

I have the droppoint rant with the s.s. & rubber removable handle. I think it's a great knife, but not one I would pick first for a tonka tuph fixed blade of that general blade length. IMO it's to thin the steel stock and the hollow grind, but sharpend rite it'll be a scalple. tha spelnns ryght qleen yer iiiiis.

first of all, im appalled that you would compare these too companies and their products! rant is much better. everyone above has it right, neither of these would be a first choice. BRKT, fallkniven, and my favorite RAT RC-4!!!

In that price range, RAT Cutlery is your best option. If you're going to put it through some heavy abuse, their warranty has you covered. If you're specifically wanting to choose between BM or CRKT, I'd vote repeatedly for BM.

i really dont get why people knock crkt. i dig 'em. i wouldn't hesitate to buy a crkt.

of course i would handle it before i buy it

i lose things often , so expensive knives are useless to me , as it would never leave the house...

my current edc is a 15$ winchester big woody, which because im not worried about losing it, i will probably have it for 20 years...

oh , and my next purchase is a crkt sting.

I have the later Rant drop point with the non removable Santoprene handle. IMO it is a great knife the blade is pretty thick at just under 5 mil and has a high flat grind and 440c blade that sharpens up really nicely. Of the two definitely recommended.

RATs are great but over here in SA where I live there seems to be only one outlet and they come at a premium price.

I think the fixed grip would be a good choice if you anted a benchmade. Its not super thick so I would shy away from prying with it but is a good size and has a wide blade.

I have a Greco MST,(mid-sized tactical). They are awesome hard use knives with 8670 tool steel. I was just on ebay and you can get a whisper and a MST for 89.00 bucks. I promise you can't beat it . Spend another 30 and get a kydex from red hill sheaths.com and your set.

I didn't catch what your price range was. The Rant is my choice of the two you mentioned. Better steel, better handle, better company. However, if you are looking to pay in the 100 range, the RC Rat knives, Fallkniven are excellent choices.

As a fellow south African I agree with you about the high price commanded for RAT's that why I get mine off of e bay. If you are patient and look around you can get some real bargain prices (just add on the $25 or so for the shipping by priority mail) which come in at about R400-R600 cheaper than we get them for locally. I got my RAT 3 and RAT 4 both off e bay.
