Crkt vs. Benchmade

I actually laughed when I read the thread title and saw BM compared to CRKT.

Nay. The cheeseburger is a White Castle.

Just like my CRKT M16-13T, I'd drive 3 hours back to Jersey just to get my hands on one.

woot white castle. i dont see hoy crkt can compare to BM. i also dont see the popularity of the m-16 line, i have owned multiple ones they sell them on every base. except for the desert big dog which can be picked up for 24 bucks and is a great beater im not a big fan of the company at all, i tend to buy knives for my girl friend from them because they have some designs that are rather feminine such as the k.i.s.s and the pharoh. anything that interests me is absurdly overpriced like their razeals reminds me of cold steal almost. meanwhile benchmade makes excellent folders, and good fixed blades.

Go With a RAT Cutlery and you wont regret it.

A good drag-through-the-mud knife still doesn't say what you want it for, or in other words, how you'll use it. You can get some knives for ten or fifteen dollars, though they're not very good cutters. In almost any situation a Benchmade will be better than any CRKT, but if a cheaper knife will do you, why not save a few bucks?

CRKT's blade steel isn't the greatest in the world, so go with the Benchmade if you're after enduring quality. But if you want a rugged knife you can use as a tent peg in an emergency, go with the CRKT.

I would recommend the Rant over the CRKT any day---I'm not a big fan of CRKT, and I think the world of Benchmade. I also believe that the Rant is made here in the United States.

I am also a fan of RAT Cutlery---the RC3 or 4 would be an excellent knife, which I'd recommend over your two stated choices.

Good luck. :)

and i bought it for half the price of a RAT knife. Those are nice, but I can't spend over $100 EVERYTIME i buy a carry knife! I like Benchmades...

Summary of thread:

"Should I have pizza, or a cheeseburger?"

"Get filet mignon."

Hmmm....

Too much credit yet I thinks....

"I am hungry, should I look in the fridge, or under it?"
"Why don't we just go eat a Kobe steak?"

:D

I'm seriously failing to see what people have against CRKT.

You'd think AUS8 was complete crap. I've been using my 2 M16 models for years with no issues, whatsoever. The hold a serviceable edge under continuous use, and rarely need more than a light touch-up.

Their fit and finish is excellent, especially for the price range. The locks are solid, and the designs are comfortable.

The way they get tossed aside here, I had to check again to make sure I wasn't in the RAT forum.

They seem to get a decent amount of respect and a loyal following...on forums that do not revolve around knives.

I don't know what your budget is but my choices would not be CRKT or Benchmade. CRKT's are crap and I don't like BM as a company.

I would be looking at a Bark River or a Microtech Currahee maybe a RAT or Fallkniven also.

Wow, out of 38 responses, I think maybe 4 or 5 people answered the question posed...he wasn't asking for recommendations for a fixed blade, I'm pretty sure he was asking for a "which one of these two?"

Rant.
