Crkt?

They arent taboo but they arent really making a big name for themselves. They have a small fanbase on this forum but In many cases the collectors on this and other knife forums are mostly above that level of knife collecting. And I dont think the brand has developed quite the cult status like buck has. They make a semi professional product that seems to appeal to mass marketing and sales rather than cutting edge manufacturing and materials. But the certainly isnt any reason NOT to discuss them on the forum. They simply arent that popular.

Then you haven't looked very closely.

I believe er just had an active thread on them in the last couple days.

Honestly, they seem a little bit "yeah, me too" to me. Or maybe "also ran" is a good term.
Like, they had Ken Onion come over and produce some fairly forgettable knive designs after he just came from a hugely successful run over at Kershaw / ZT.

I can't really say anything bad about their quality or F&F, but their designs just don't appeal to me very much, and even the ones that do, at that price point, there's always something I like more.

Love them. Inexpensive, mostly solid models, great EDC knives that you don't have to worry that you'll damage.
Yes, not always a top shelf materials or quality of manufacturing but nothing drastically different than most of the Chinese made KAY knives i.e.,
same country of origin, same materials, usually US designers... They work for me, I got plenty of them, I like them and use them side by side with more expensive folders of better quality...

They tend to use low end steels, which is the opposite of the fashion here, & they have modern designs, so don't fit in the traditional forum.
I had a Lakes Sentinal a few years ago, excellent knife. They are priced as users rather than art works, so not much cache in an "I just bought..." thread.

This.

The only thing here that I disagree with is the last sentence. I have seen lots of CRKT's in the pockets of workers and first responders. The M16/M21 series knives are really commonplace. What CRKT is, and this is coming from someone who carried one for almost three years, is the first "entry level" knife brand that isn't crap. CRKT is that first step above the Chinese Gerber or generic knife. Where CRKT fails in my opinion, even in comparison to Gerber, is that they do not offer ANY USA stuff or better steels. I would totally buy a USA made M21 Series knife in M4 or S35VN.

i like CRKT, they have a lot of good designs but like already mentioned, i wish they would make some of their knives with higher end materials. still though, they have some pretty decent stuff for the price they ask. the otanashi and hissatsu folders are pretty cool, and i also really like their Foresight and Eraser models.

You also find them in the pockets of many people in the military. They are priced right in the base exchange, so many sevice members will buy them. If the knife is lost in the field, it is not a big deal. Most of the knives I carried in the sevice were CRKT.

I just wish they used better steel.

It's what I carried after I left my Benchmade in a parking lot at Ft. Drum. I've had dozens of M16 models my current Benchmade replaced an M16-12Z.

A buddy asked me to do him a favor and sharpen his knife and I was so impressed with it that I bought one for myself.
CRKT M-16 13T.
The titanium scales and ultra smooth flipper action make this one of the best $65 knives out there.

What's the name of that wharncliffe with a bottle opener, the one that is upside down, near the bottom?

From the looks of it, the CRKT Hi Jinx is such a beautiful knife. It's aesthetically one of the most gorgeous knives I've ever seen (online only). I bet it melts in your hand.

But that price..... Not so much.

I have the fulcrum flame and m21-14g. For what they cost they are good performers and kinda neat in their own way. The flame is a cool little folder to fahtz around with and very sharp. The m21 is a solid knife and I love the veff serrations for rope, hose and its perfect on those friggin clam packs. The depth of the serration allows it to pull rite thru sort of like a guthook. I'm definitely.gonna give the BT-70 a shot. Something about it. They've had some appealing stuff over the yrs

A "bottle opener"... :D It's a custom made Ontario Rat1, M390 steel, CF scales, blade is sort of my design but it's very obvious where the influence came from...
It was supposed to have a thumb disk where the actual wave is, but the steel was too hard to work with and we left it for another project...

Interesting work there. Off topic - is that a red dragons symbol on the blade in the sketch near the handle?

The Titanium CRKT Eros and the new Ripple frame locks are awesome knives.
