Crkt?

Interesting work there. Off topic - is that a red dragons symbol on the blade in the sketch near the handle?
:D Thomas Harris's or Mahjong fan ?
Yes it is, I'm dragon by the Chinese calendar (1964) and I like the symbol anyway... :D
This is the picture from my avatar, another custom... :D

Sorry for the off-topic, please email me if you have more questions, my address should be in the profile

I tend to prefer CRKT's Taiwanese knives over their Chinese ones. QC and overall fit/finish tends to better on the Taiwan models.

Cool man. The symbol and the red dragons terms is often associated with Sirius radio show host Jason Ellis, thought you were a fan.

Carry on :o

The Titanium CRKT Eros and the new Ripple frame locks are awesome knives.
They are more nice designs...
I think they are heading in the right direction, attracting well known names in addition to the one they already have.
I met with Burnley and Tighe ( not to ignore the rest of the designers there) on the last year's SHOT, very pleasant people, beautiful designs...

I'm waiting for the 2392, Terry Lee Renner's Deviation folder (very interesting design, ebven in the inexpensive CRKT version) and Bob Terzuola's BT 70:

I got XM... :D In the car. That my wife drives... :D They cut most of the right wing nutjobs stations and I lost interest for it.
My son is big fan of JE, I cannot say that I like it entirely, even I enjoyed few pieces that I had chance to listen to, but hey, nothing wrong with diversity we can't be all the same, right ... :D

i had an m16-14 big dog i think it was called. It had the veff serration's and it was a stellar cutter. I lost it over the summer and am kinda bummed i search for it every time i go home from school. I also had a m16 that was black with veff serrations and it only had 1 flipper so it was a pain in the ass to close. So Halloween last year after a knight of partying my buddy asks to see my knife which at the time I was carrying the black m16 so i pulled it out and was showing it to him and he asked how to close it so i showed him and was trying to be all flashy about it. Long story short heres what my thumb looked like 2 days later since i didn't get stitches.

Point taken. Hope you recovered well, it needed few stitches IMHO, or at least some steri strips... :D

I ended up going to the hospital the day after it happened and they told me they couldn't give me stitches because it was past the 9 hour mark to get stitches they also took an xray and told me i broke the tip of my thumb. So i had to wear a thumb. The cut just naturally healed back together with help of krazy glue and those butterfly butterfly style band-aids although I do remember pulling a chunk of dead skin out of the cut.

I have no particular issue with knives made for Columbia River (CRKT). None of my regular use knives are CRKT's, but I have three Razels (stubby, big folder, and ringed razel) that I use for work knives from time to time. Other than that, I don't own any and seldom look at them. You get their stuff, you just have to understand what you are buying. Buy them. Use them. Enjoy.

I view buying their stuff just part of the learning curve in terms of appreciating knives. Better to buy their stuff than not at all and there are much worse manufacturers.

Ouch! Did your thumb get infected, Edge? A co-worker begged me to let him see my Zt 801, I agreed reluctantly. The moron started doing all kinds of fighting moves with it. stabbed himself in the armpit with it. I almost burst out laughing. Luckily he didn't need stitches, just patched him up and back to work. On topic, I have two CRKT's an M16 and M21. I wouldn't buy again from the brand unless they come out with better steels, I considered buying that Tacticool Wakizashi or whatever it was. I'm sure I could get a better one from Swamprat though.

Nope no infections.

One of the worst cuts I have self inflicted came from my CRKT Ringed Razel. I tossed that knife into my knife tub (rubbermaid) and it sat there for a couple years. I have since gotten it out and have been using it knowing that there are sharp edges that are not in the normal knife places.

This.

Where CRKT fails in my opinion, even in comparison to Gerber, is that they do not offer ANY USA stuff or better steels. I would totally buy a USA made M21 Series knife in M4 or S35VN.

Not the M21 series, but...

http://www.crkt.com/hck1-hood-camp-knife-3510 - the Karen Hood knives are made in the U.S.; 1095, though. Sheaths also made in the U.S.

http://www.crkt.com/M16-04A?&search_id=1055836 - M16-04A made in the U.S. CPM 154 - auto, so they kinda had to. LOL

Not much, but it's something. :)

And, fwiw, not made in the U.S., no premium steel, but supports a good cause:

The Hi Jinx is also not made in the U.S., but it's made in Italy rather than Taiwan or China. Made of a steel I admit I know nothing about.

I do own 4 CRKT knives. All fixed blades that I sometimes wish had been made with better materials. I have very few complaints about the Minimalist, though.

I had a lot of issues with CRKT knives I owned. This was 8-10 years ago. I owned an M16-12Z whose blade chipped so much it looked like a bad full serration, and is the only knife I've owned where the lock failed. Repeatedly. Had a K.I.S.S. and P.E.C.K. and they sucked too.

I think CRKT has some cool collaborations (Brian Tighe especially) but their steel is sub-par at best IMO/E. Also IMO, and the opinion of the knife enthusiast community, they are an "also ran."

I've owned a real Brian Tighe, but the size and shape didn't fit my hand. I want to try another, but finding them is difficult at best. Hopefully CRKT will up their game with better steel like Cold Steel is doing, so I can try out one of their collabs before I search out another Tighe custom. Until then, thanks but no thanks.

EDIT: I also feel they are overpriced. I understand many use IKBS and such, but still I have a difficult time paying over $100 for an AUS-8 knife. Cold Steel Espada would be the exception, seeing as it is such a large blade.

Also, nice thumb. I got stitches (for an injury) for the first time in my life this year. Long story, nearly lost my middle finger on my left hand at the third knuckle. Good think I'm a lefty. I've stitched myself up before, but this was the first time going to the hospital.

They have a lot of nice designs, but way too often I'll get one in my hands with a horrendous fit and finish issue. My buddy has a Shenanigan with an out of spec pivot so you can't adjust out the side to side play, I had the same issue in a Carson M21 I bought, I've handled multiple Mah Erasers with completely botched lockup, and the Swindle is a travesty with its lockup as well. Combine that with their cheap steels and I just can't bring myself to take the chance sight unseen. I hope their upcoming Terzuola collaboration changes my mind. And whatever they do with the Ripple they need to do with all their knives because that's the only CRKT I see consistently executed well.

I've several CRKTs and really like them: Vertex (not made anymore), Incendor, M4 (both wood and stag versionsA) and a couple others. Fine knives, good edge after a little honing, hold up well IMHO.

To be honest, I carry a CRKT Large Eros every day. It's my backup EDC. At 1.4 ounces, it's so light that I can carry it almost weightlessly inside the coin compartment of my wallet. It even has a full 4" handle which makes it EXTREMELY easy to use. I've never seen another knife quite like it. And yes, boys and girls, it's yet another CRKT award-winner . . . the 2010 Blade Show Import Knife of the Year. I'm still not a big CRKT fan, but I've got to give credit where credit is due.
