Can anyone tell me if these knives are any good ? The price of these knives are pretty cheap ! I have the crkt desert cruiser , it seems to be an ok knife w/ dual flippers & tip up or down option ! I paid $16.oo for this item did I do Good or did I buy junk ?

crkts are pretty good, they use some fairly soft steels for some models, but aus-8 is fine for a user

for 16.00, id say you did ok.

i have seen some quality control issues, ie loose scales, blades and clips.

If you search the forums you will find posts about the Desert Cruiser and the writers impressions about the knife. I think CRKT has done OK for the price.

But honestly, where did you get them for $16? That's amazing.

I don't know about their entire product line but my M21 is a great knife for the money and I am used to high end knives!

I love my CRKT cruiser. I originally paid around $60 for mine about 3 or 4 years ago. And its still alive and kicking. I've also picked up a couple more for around $20. Good buys i believe. Yeah where did you get one for 16 bucks? Thats a great deal. Also CRKT will send you free replacement parts for your knife. Screws, clips, scales etc.

I have a Cruiser as well and edc it nearly every day so it gets a fair bit of use.
Like yours mine is still going strong, takes a good edge and keeps it as long as most of my other knives.
They seem to come under fire a lot on here and I don't really know why!!!:)

SMKW sales close out CRKT at those prices. I think the shipping charges are to high so I hardly deal with them.

I own more than one CRKT , they do put out some nice blades at a good price but , I think one has to be picky on some of thier knives , such as the Rollock which IMO is a total piece of junk.
Some of thier other knives I own though are pretty darn nice , especially considering the price , such as the Ryan PlanB or Falcon fixed , you cannot go wrong on either of those little FB's.
The large model S-2 is one of the nicest knives I own, added PB washers and it is smooth as silk-solid as rock , the lockup is incredible on the titanium frame , ATS34 steel , all for under $30 , beat that if you can.

I do hope that CRKT does not sell out by using even cheaper materials or getting sloppier than some folks have reported.
I guess that can happen with any knife company but it seems to happen a lot with CRKT lately.

I was on the verge of buying an M21 until I read so many posts telling how they failed the spine whack test - not good. Also the steel quality of their knives have declined, I guess to save production expenses. I would buy a CRKT knife in a New York minute if these problems were addressed. I love their designs and would hope new engineering on these problems are solved.

I've abandoned CRKT. I find their quality poor and the steel compromises unacceptable. I find their liner locks unrealiable and they wear quickly.

The one line that seems to have maintained some quality, the M16 style is not to my taste in knives. If you want to try out a design to see if it fits your needs, you can experiment with a CRKT cheaply to see if a more expensive purchase of a similar design is worth it.

But no, I don't find CRKT to be "worth it". Spyderco Byrd or Benchmade Red Class offer better quality and function in that price range.

Why would anybody want to whack the spine? If you wish to do this then buy a fixed blade. My cruiser lock has never failed me during normal use !

Congratulations - the fixed blade option is probaly the best option if that is your need. However the poster wanted a folder; whacking the spine is one of the many tests of a good folder. If your folder fails the spine whack test then you take the chance that it will collapse on your fingers while in use - not good.

Yeah i know what you are saying but that would be at the back of mind no matter what folder I was using, even if it passed a 'Whack" test, this is why for hard use i go to a fixed full tang blade every time.
And not to pick fault with your post but he has actually stated that he already has this folder and seems quite happy with it....he is just asking for other peoples opinions !:)

Agree with you 100%. Thanks for you excellent input.

Just out of interest Digdeep, cos I'm not really a folder guy, what type of lock do you consider to be the strongest?
I remember reading about the BM Rukus and the lock on that sounded very solid !

I like some CRKT knives like the Stingwhich is an exellent knife and now that I have one of Eric's sheaths for it even better. I plan on buying the Hissatsu folder when it comes out based purly on looks.

I own a Rukus and am very happy with it. Your question is unanswerable to me but I am sure others out there can chime in explaining their views as to the strongest. As you previously stated - fixed blades are to me to be the best of all worlds - that's why I trust my life to a fixed blade. Folders are a back-up if you need a smaller blade for cutting purposes. For every day use in using for chipping small limbs and cutting wood I vary between folders and fixed blade knives. Busse, Fallkniven, Scrapyard, and Swamp Rat are among my favorite fixed blade knives especially for self-defense.
