Crocodile Hunter dead at 44

When I head this i was so shocked. 2 hours later I still cant believe it.
One can think given his dangerous line of work it shouldnt be a big surprise, but i still cant believe it. Not to mention the way he died... a stingwray? Deaths from stingwrays are very rare.

I still want to hear a news story saying he is alive or something. Poor family, he was only 44, had a wife and two young children. Usually news of a death doesn't really affect me that much but this feels different. You jsut watch him hes so full of joy, so full of life, seems like he has such a huge heart so innocent a man. He had such a passion for his job. I dont know what to think.
The only consolation i can think of is that at least he lived life to the fullest. Few people ever get to live that way, to have that passion for job and life, to have seen so much we sometimes dont even see on tv.

RIP Steve. He led a charmed life while taking chances (on a daily basis) that most of us wouldn't consider taking even once.

I was upset when I heard that Ben Roethlisberger went down for an appendectomy on Saturday, But this absolutley took the wind from my sails.

I remember the first time I ever saw his show. It had to be about 13 years ago and I think it was a New Years Special on the Ten Deadliest Snakes in the World. Our 12 year old was at his first New Years party so I was watching the tube until the appointed hour when I was going to pick him up. The guy just blew me away. I became a Crocodile Hunter fan for a number of years.

I wish they'd start using Pedophile "Stand-Ins" when they shoot these dangerous sequences.

Damned shame. This guy did more for conservation and environmental awareness than many dozens of "activist" tree-huggers.

The only thing I can say is that he died doing what he loved....

Thats a hard break. A true shame, since his kids are so young. I wish his family the best under the circumstances.

Regards, Jonathon Werner

That is a damn shame!! I really liked watching his show!! I loved his passion for animals. This is very sad!! I feel bad for his wife and kids. My heart and prayers go out to them.

He died as he lived with a passion for what he loved.

Steve Irwin was a zoologist and a conservationist who loved nature and animals and knew and loved what he did with a passion.

How many of us can say that in our lives. I truly am sorry to hear of his passing. People with passion make this world a better place and when they are gone it is a tragedy.

When I saw this on Drudge last night I told my grown daughter and she was upset. Someone at our birthday party for my grandson asked how is this death any different than that of Timothy Tredwell the " Grizzly Man". Then this morning I see this piece saying he was a victim of 'voyeuristic wildlife TV'.

Irwin was the real deal and he did some real good. His passion for animals had lasting affect on many.

I couldn't believe it when I read it this morning. From what I read they were filming for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest". They said that he swam too close to one of the rays and it's tail went up. The barb entered the rib cage and then pierced his heart.:( RIP Steve.

Maybe karma caught up to him for holding his little child near a crocodile as "croc bait" awhile back.

Still it is very sad for his family and friends.:(.

Man what horrible news... I thought the guy was colorful and funny , and had nads the size of boulders for getting as close as he did to such creatures.
RIP bro....

Hmmm...Maybe I've been watching too much "My Name Is Earl" as far as the karma thing goes, but eventho I did like the guy, I think that his holding his little child so close to that croc wasn't a very smart thing to do...One little slip, and he'd have been fighting to get his child from being a croc snack. I really didn't mean any disrespect. I guess it reminded me of that bozo Micheal Jackson holding his child out of that window awhile back.

I didn't see it on TV, but according to the news reports last night, there were folks upset in the past that he took his child into the croc area, possibly while feeding them. It didn't say he was holding the kid out in harms way ala Michael Jackson, (though some would argue that being in the croc area at all IS in harms way.) I would say that sort of depends. Might be safer in Steve Irwin's arms in a croc pit than crawling around my living room!

Not to be OT here but it's all good , Batch will fill in and I place a lot of confidence in Charlie's performance.

Still sort of hard to believe someone as animated as Mr. Irwin could die like that....:(
