"crowbar with an edge"

I thought about the Becker but I don't think that Camillus would honor any warranty if you broke it by prying with it. Then again for the money you could just buy a new one everytime you needed one. They are certainly great knives for the money.

Have they changed the warranty? The tactool is specifically designed to do things like pry open doors, and while reading some old threads a few days ago I noted that the Becker warranty from Camillus was unconditional replacement for gross damage.

Was trying to avoid posting in this thread since they often turn kinda ugly, but since I'm here anyways I'll throw in my vote for one of the Heavy Ordinance Grade Busse knives(Fusion Steel Heart, Fusion Battle mistress), I think the company store may have some. I see they still have some limited editions still stocked, but those are a more expensive than the standard grade ones. The standard thickness knives will work just fine as well, but the 5/16 ones are superfluously strong.

No you may be right. I'll look and see if I can find anything on it. I have a Camillus knife (folder) and was basing it on that paperwork. For the Becker it may well be that it is promoted and covered for such use. Good info if so. Hope so.

They do indeed promote them for perfect knives for prying but I have not seen a copy of the warranty per say. That is what I get for relying on a 20 year old knife paper work. Good call. One thing I did notice is that they say the same thing for the Becker Extreme in S30V. Based on some of the reports I've read on that steel it is probably one of the last ones I'd use or recommend for prying. I have read that it is a very unforgiving steel for that kind of job and snaps readily. Perhaps heat treat is differerent on that model or something though.

All I can find is: Warranty:
All Camillus knives come with a limited Lifetime warranty. Check with your local dealer for details on returning any product to us or feel free to call us.

5/16's?? Are you sure? I've handled both and they were 1/4" Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks for any clarification. :)

Leatherman, as far as I know, they've always been 5/16", and there's never been a 1/4" version produced of the Recon Scout or Trailmaster.

I would also say go with something 5/16" thick like a Busse. I just finished a customer designed knife using 5/16" O1 with a convex grind and I see no way of ever breaking it. That was one thick ass knife. :D

A year and a half later one would think he had already decided.

However in the spirit of the thread, I'de suggest looking at a Busse Fusion Battle Mistress. That thing is a beast.

The Dogfather would be tough to break under most normal conditions...and the CT is close behind. Has anyone here ever thought of the stress on the human wrist while doing all this feverish chopping? What about using the left hand to balance out the work?

I know this is a post from 2005, but, I will throw in my $.02 for giggles. The first things that comes to mind when thinking about a crowbar with an edge, is Busse!
I would also offer for your consideration, Ranger Knives. Justin is awesome! He will also build you a custom knife at an extremely reasonable price!

Thanks for pointing out this thread was 2 years old. I was starting to wonder why anyone would recommned the warranty of a company no longer in business (i.e., Camillus)
