Crucible Industries Update

We have orders for PM steels with the same Chemistry that Crucible offers. We don't anticipate any disruptions in product, but there may be new names depending on how things work out. Carpenter Technologies and Erasteel know these alloys and can make what we need. We are hopeful Crucible is sold to new ownership that is interested in making CPM alloys and we can continue to work with them.

We have already placed orders with Erasteel, Carpenter Technologies, Ellwood Quality Steels and Universal Stainless who will provide the same high-quality products and the same exact chemistries. We have been processing their cutlery and/or aerospace alloys for several years and their quality has always been outstanding. Although there may be a brief adjustment period during this transition, our team is committed to minimizing any disruptions and maintaining the service and product quality you have come to expect from us.

Should they cease operating, would this mean the end of production of CPM knife steels as we know them?

My guess is someone would buy the rights and produce them. But it may or may not be the same.

Bob answered this in the first post, guys. 😉

I need my S90V!!!!!!

Hopefully we'll see some more of CTS-20CP.

It doesn't pay to do business in blue states. Not trying to get political, but NY is awful when it comes to taxes. Sad.

So much for not trying to get too political… this is a typical two-dimensional sound bite response to a far more complex problem, and also an incorrect one. There’s far more to this than ‘taxes’. I’ll leave it at that.

Sorry to hear this about CPM. I really wish them the best and hope things turn out ok.

The thought of no S90V or S110V makes me nauseous.

Read the whole thread. The navman navman post just above yours demonstrates this is an unfounded position. Seriously, guys, this is an unfortunate circumstance, but don’t make it worse than it actually is!!

Your title is typical and two-dimensional, not complex and also incorrect.

This is tragic news. What an iconic company, I really hope they’re able to pull themselves out of it…

If it comes down to it we could all pitch in and buy 1,000,000 scratch-offs then donate the profits to crucible. We already all have a knife problem what’s the harm in a gambling problem added on top

Crucible has been in NY State since their founding. Way back when NY was a center of manufacturing. It is not a simple or inexpensive process to move a steel mill to another State. Considering the current state of international business, the poor economy, high taxes, high regulations, high power costs and you can see how Crucible is in the midst of a perfect storm.

My fear is that a certain far eastern country swoops in and swallows them whole. US investors seem too short-sighted to understand the value of Crucible Industries.

Folks, political discussion is not allowed in GKD. Further posts along those lines will be moved offline. nsm nsm is doing us all a service by sharing information about the current state of affairs.

If you want to discuss the politics of taxation and / or the policies of NY state, we have a political forum where you can opine to your heart's content.

Thank you.

This is heart breaking news.

It's an awful time to own businesses, across a spectrum of insurmountable difficulties. Expect more where this came from unless something miraculous happens in the very near future. Most have no idea just how tenuous things are at the moment, but it won't be long before it's obvious.

I have to assume the knife industry alone isn't what makes up the bulk of Crucible's sales. There's been enough new CPM-ABC123 in the last decade alone that I would think they should be rolling in knife sales money. Which obviously they are not. I wonder where their real money comes from. Or rather used to come from.
