Crucible Materials to be auctioned off September 21

I have close to 300 pounds of the CruForge. I was going to take 20 lbs or so over to Gembloux in my luggage to let some of my crazy Dutch and Belgian friends try it out........sorry guys.:D

This may be a stupid question, but is Crucible still taking orders for what they have on hand or are they waiting for the auction? In my very limited experience all I have used has been carbon, but I would like to order a few bars to have on hand for when I decide to make a blade from stainless.

You guys seem to be putting us - CRUCIBLE - in an early grave. The September 21st auction is part of the process. If none of the many interested parties purchases certain Crucible divisions, than those divisions will probably go away. If I had to bet on the future of Crucible at this point i would bet that we will still be here after September 21st but with a new owner.
Our tenative plans right now are to melt steel the second half of September and one of those melts should be CPM154. And we have plenty of CruForge V on hand - approx 30,000 pounds with 10,000 pounds of slab at the mill. We also have plenty of CPMS30V, 154CM and CPM 3V on hand.

I am going to stay the course and see this thing through. If everything just totally goes wrong - OK - I'll be looking for work but as I said earlier I think i will finish my career with Crucible !!!

Thanks to everyone for your continued support through this difficult time and for being great customers through the good times and bad. The knife community is great and has been the very best part of my job for years now. Again thanks and we should be continuing on with this great relationship for years to come.

All the best
Scott D.

Thanks for adding your perspective, Scott. It looks bleak from the news stories we're reading, I'm glade someone on the inside is optimisitic, that's a good sign. I hope Crucible can continue to provide high quality steels for the knife industry.

Thanks for chiming in Scott. I'm glad to hear that you're optimistic and we're all pulling for all of you to come through this.

Thank-you Scott!
Loyalty to an employer and to customers is very admirable.

I hope you finish your career with Crucible also....and leave them a very healthy corporation.

I cwrtinly hope that you guys stick arond Scott, because you have played the role of heroin dealer to us in the knife game as far as getting us addicted to the "good stuff":D

Good to hear, my the house I just bought is within driving distance of your Arlington Tx distribution center.

I am still arranging my shop. I need to hire an electrician, but once I work out the details I will have moved from a 2 bedroom apt, with the 2nd bedroom as a shop. To a house with a garage that is wired and ready to go.

Hearing that yall were potentially going out of business was a real bummer. Im excited about setting up a real shop after years of anticipation.

That's good to hear Scott , thanks for lifitnig our spirits.

what is the best way to buy some CPM M4, can I buy it from Crucible itself or must I get it from a retailer:confused:

i'm kind of confused. i emailed crucible today to get a price quote on some cru forge v. thinking even tho i couldnt buy much i would like to help out as much i could. all i get was an email telling me that someone named brian is out until sept 9th. what's up with that? no one else at crucible is able to do a price quote and sell steel?

i kind of thought that a company that is looking at going belly up would be more interested.

Scott I hope and pray that you are right. Charlie and I are going to making knives out of Crucible steel for a long time one way or the other. Once upon a time I did an industry presentation on Disaster Preparedness and one of the killer disasters for a business is when a sole supplier of a critical part goes out of business. We are worried about what the future holds for Crucible as our business will be affected also. I hope that whoever purchases Crucible continues to support the small user as well as Crucible has in the past.

Fantastic to hear Scott...We are all pulling for you more than you know.

Thanks for stopping by and posting...

Scott, this entire community is behind you guys more than you will ever know. You folks have literally changed our world, and if you all go TU it will totally crush all of us. We're pullin' for ya, though I can't exactly say the picture is rosy. I hope with all my heart that things work out.
