CS trench hawk modification

I'm really posting this to bump this up and get more info and comments on the op's great post and modification. To the above question: a reminder could be added, this would be a piece of 550 cord running the length of the shaft, this is commonly done with golf clubs and called a reminder. The idea is that when you grip it there is a ridge in the "grip" that reminds you where the "front" is just by feel. Great work and thanks for sharing.

tube I used is 1.1/4 in diameter , I have to warn you hawk is heavy and I haven't tested it yet , I will post after I get chance to use it and let you know how it performs .
hopefully with pics.

Later.

Sweet mod!
How bad is the flex with the original handle?
I have a SOG fusion Tomahawk with the poly handle, it flexes a little bit when you chop really hard.
Going to pickup one of these CS Trench Hawks soon, also a Pipe Hawk, Spike Hawk and Vietnam Hawk.
Already have 6 CS hawks (3 Trailhawks, 1 Frontier Hawk, 1 Norse Hawk, 1 Riflemans hawk).
I'm turning into a Hawk modding junkie,lol!

ok, I finally got a chance to use it , it works , held up very well.
but you better have strong hands to use it.

OK, As I said before you inspired me to make my own handle so here goes.

First I bought my trench hawk thinking I would "Shrike" it out.Yes you can cut the head of a Trench hawk down to this if you like.

Then I saw this thread.

After I bolted it together I thought the tubing I had might be a little thin, So I back filled it with 8 lbs density urethane foam. Don't Mix too MUCH!!

Now here it is in all its 22" of painted camo glory (minus the paracord wrap)

thats 8lbs wet weight...what does it all weigh now that it is dry?

I think it's actually a measure of how much weight (per cubic foot) the fully expanded foam can hold. I ranges for 2lbs. to 16 lbs.. The 16 lbs. stuff is hard as a rock.

Has anyone tried drilling a hole farther down from the top one so that the handle wouldnt have to be so long? Id like to pick one up but it seems like that handle would get in the way.

Not sure what you mean by this. At 19" the handle on the trench hawk is shorter than any other current cold steel tomahawk. I actually put a 22" handle on my experiment.

I meant the placement of the top hole that holds the handle to the blade. Moving it away from the top of the axe head.

You wouldn't want to do that. It would create too much leverage on such a small cross section of metal it would shear right off! Cold steel put them in the right place. The only issue with the trench hawk is the handle it comes with. My friend had his for a week and it snapped below the head (clean break). CS said send it back for testing and he will have a new one in a months time.

damn...I like it!!! And I thought I wouldn't be getting a trench hawk (didn't like the way it looks. Now I need to find someone who can cut something like that.

Me too. I think I am going to have to get one to play with. I want to try a short handle/No handle and I have a few ideas about regrinding it.

I'm researching it now, But I think a Lacross stick shaft would work perfectly!!
I play lacrosse and to be honest i don't think thats what you'd want lacrosse sticks brake and bend pretty easily under alot of force

I got my hawk yesterday & played with it a little today. I like it I cuts better then I thought it would. I also learned I have a lot to learn about using a axe efficiently. I don't know how I am going to mod it yet but I am sure don't like the spike so long. I would like to see or hear about what others have done.
I am thinking I would get more use out of it as a shorter field hawk then a war / trench hawk. It has been a long time since I have seen any zombies around here.
